Forgot just how much I fucking hate Leeds.
Simon Mignolet: 6
Decent save early on when Lucas played Goodison Park onside. Other than that, fairly routine, did well with a few punches and everything else as you’d expect.
Alberto Moreno: 8
Decent outlet, didn’t have a ‘moment’ either, which was nice! Looked well-drilled, linked up well, highlight was a lovely ball with the outside of his foot first half to set up a decent chance.
Ragnar Klavan: 6
Didn’t have a bad game, didn’t really have much to do either, unlucky not to score in the first half with an effort from 30 yards.
Lucas Leiva: 7
Lucas is my shepherd, one that manages to play the entire world and its brother onside. Apart from that, standard, never hides and always looked to take the initiative.
Trent Alexander-Arnold: 8
Who put the cross for Origi’s goal, who put the cross for Origi’s goal, who put the cross for Origi’s goal? Trent Alexander-Arnold.
Kevin Stewart: 7
Turned over like a Vauxhall Nova.
Ovie Ejaria: 7
The epitome of raw precociousness. Can see everything, but yet to grow into it, one glorious ball in the first half.
Georginio Wijnaldum: 8
Hold and gave and did it at the right time. Boss assist for the boy Woodburn.
Emre Can: 6
Looked lost without his mates around him, a chance to assert some authority, didn’t start well and didn’t really improve either.
Sadio Mane: 6
Worryingly rusty, and at the worst possible time given the injuries around him.
Divock Origi: 7
Showed a couple of other facets to his game tonight, quietly impressive and capped it with the opener.
SUBS
Ben Woodburn: 11
Man of the match for two on the bounce now. Absolutely fucking over the moon for the lad. Owes Wijnaldum the biggest pint (once he turns 18).
James Milner: N/A
Marko Grujic: N/A

Thought Trent looked great, a star in the making.
Not sure about the rest though. We look ‘okay’ in the first half, but lacking any sort of creativity up front.
The 30 minutes after half time were a bit of a joke really, but great for big Divi and Woodburn to get their goals late on.
Don’t want to be too negative (although I just have), but I think we were pretty lucky to get out of there with a result.
Woodburn – better than Messi, not as good as TAA.
So after all the positives of this season already, now it turns out we have a right-back who can cross like Gerrard and a young lad up top who can finish like Fowler? Nice. I don’t want to get carried away as I know I shouldn’t, but I think Alexander-Arnold’s cross might be the best thing anyone has done on any football pitch ever, apart from Woodburn’s goal.
As for Leeds, tonight reminded me how much I fucking detest their repugnant fans. Did they all bring a ‘book of shit, cliched chants’ with them tonight. Hope they never come back up. I like Monk though.
Come on! Mignonette 6?? The lad did exceptionally well keeping a clean sheet.
Agreed.
Btw notice the generic subscribers interactive participation is well down on the comments sections of podcasts and post. Imho it’s down to the need to state your name an email address before your comment. It’s too protracted.
Didn’t you always have to? It’s either that or a login surely. I think it’s down to not having a lot to moan about.
People love a fucking moan.
I agree and remember the comments use to regularly be 30, 40 or 80 odd
I think it’s the new website and more content
Preferred the old website tbh
Nah, its because things are generally positive. As soon as we have a bad patch the posts on here will increase.
Agreed. Negativity seems to inspire the masses. Don’t miss it though tbh.
sometimes it can be quite funny reading people losing their shit over the most trivial of things. But generally it does grate when its clear they are simply playing to a popular agenda rather than simply saying what they see and think.
But that’s part of football so its fair enough.
They will all be back with bells on once we hit some poor form don’t you worry.
6 for Mignolet is well harsh. Deserved an 8.
8 for Moreno is very generous. He was good but not that good. Did a few daft things as usual including 2 ridiculous shots when passes were on.
Was a bit disappointed with Stewart and Can. But they were not bad. We managed to weather a poor 20-25 in the 2nd half. Stewart’s enforced substitution turned out to be a positive. Gini dropped back into the midfield and helped us regain control.
Woodburn. That boy can finish.
This was the sort of game that Joe Allen would thrive at, making all the kids look good. Emre Can has his qualities, but he’s never going to do that. That said, Wijnaldum is doing a fairly excellent job of being the under-appreciated lynchpin. So good at holding the ball up that he makes it look dead easy. Wouldn’t mind seeing him further up to switch places with Coutinho when he recovers – would probably balance better with Can.
Like everyone, absolutely made up for the young uns.
Don’t want to be too harsh on Ejaria, but he really needs to calm it down. I don’t mind him losing it after trying to make something happen out of nothing but when there’s several simple passes on and he decides to unnecessarily complicate things it’s fucking infuriating.
Surely there’s no such thing as a big pint. It’s a pint isn’t it?
These ‘reserves’, all be it with a splattering of first teamers, reminded me of when we’ve had average teams in the 90s and 2000s playing in cups and Europa. They did alright at times and not so good at times and were frustrating when they didnt take the simple passes that were on. Looked a bit like a team that doesnt play togerher much, which they dont. I think it shows how spoilt/lucky we are with the quality of the first team at the moment as it was an ok performance that did the job but still left you wanting more. Not bad if your reseves look like a mid table premises side I say. Very excited with Trent and Woodburn. Don’t forget Can is still a you nine too despite his mature looks.
*premier
Kevin Stewart isn’t going to make it at LFC, me thinks. He’s what, 23 now? Classy player, but I’d rather have Joe Allen. Hope he gets his medal and a goal or two before moving on next season.
Woodburn on the other hand.. Immensely sure and precise in everything he did. Crisp, fast decisions oozing out confidence. Need to see more of this lad.
On the whole, an easy win in second gear against a nothing side who still won’t get promoted.
Joe Allen has gone. Let it go. He’s also older than England’s Kev Stewart at 26. Also would not be happy in the slightest to have a game every now and again and sit in the U-23’s. Plus his wages I would have thought would be a lot higher. But people need to stop harping on about Allen, he didn’t fit into this team.
I’m glad Joe Allen has left. Didn’t consider him good enough either. Maybe this helps clarify my point, cheers.
UEFA team of the year. The players’ and fans’ player of the year for Wales. Allen has been directly involved in more Premier League goals this season (6) than Zlatan Ibrahimovic and Paul Pogba combined (5).
Lovely goal broke Manc hearts.
Wish him all the best. He contributed more than he is given credit for, but at least we’ve got a tidy replacement in Wijnaldum.
Thought Mane was ok. He’s not at the blistering level he started the season but still contributed to Woodburn’s goal and won the penalty at the weekend.
A drop-off was always likely but he’s still effective enough to be involved in goals.
TAA was unbelievably encouraging. Looked pure class, bags of confidence, intelligent on the ball. Reminded me of a certain Stevie G. I believe his natural position is as a centre mid? Now that is exciting….
I kind of felt there wasn’t enough intelligent running off the ball. When we were on the edge of their box there were very few running from deep etc. which made it difficult for emre although i agree he was a little poor.
Considering Leeds won 10 out of their last 14 I think, played their 1st team and were well drilled and ready under a great prospective manager- we did very well.
Playing W,C and M in a Reserve team set up may have distorted our play in that they weren’t getting and giving as they expect. The alternative team against Spurs were more used to playing together and were more cohesive and confident of what to do and expect- this time the 3 first teamers mix didn’t really work and Leeds could justifiably come gotten the opener and perhaps won.
Player wise- give SM his due- good saves and distribution so that’s a 7/8plus. Moreno – business as usual?!? Not an 8. Stewart went backwards in this one but..
. Ejaria didn’t shine. But be dads the other kids did! Woodburn was ignored at least twice in similar positions to his “Hello Kopites!!” goal. Cool as a cucumber. Klopp gets 10/10 for from me for bringing him on in 67 minutes rather than a 1st teamer sub. That’s management faith and rewarding encouragement to the kid and to his compatriots. It’s inspired management foresight too as he heralded the baptism of fire by giving him a 91st minute on Saturday. Nothing Klopp does is by chance or luck- he knew he wanted Woodburn getting time on Tuesday but without the Anfield debut butterflies. So he ‘Kop-prepared’ the boy.
Like you all, I think Trent Alexander Arnold was magnificent. His crosses in the first half deserved better- that goal getter in the second was a peach. Didn’t Stevie start out at RB too…? just saying… Loved his comraderie and jubilation with Woodburn at the end – two kids on the way to the top.
Perfect mid week filler.
W,C and M?
Wijnaldum, Can, Mane
Moreno given 8/10? Were we watching the same game! Poor distribution and positioning. Poor decision making. Did’nt see anything in his performance that warranted such a high rating.
