AFQ: Talking Hands

Best conversations on multiple topics EVER. Really enjoyed that. Too bad you all couldn’t just go on.
Thanks
I couldn’t agree more, mate, I could’ve happily listened to the Brexit & Labour chat for another hour or two. I’m gonna give it another listen and try starting a conversation about Corbyn; it should be a relatively troll-free forum for it. They all seem to recognise the robotic nature of most MPs who’ve been parachuted into safe seats, but miss how engaging & consistent Corbyn is, and what he’s doing to combat the perception of Labour, including the kinds of people now getting involved. Considering how big the crowds were for him in Liverpool, it concerns me that they might have seen & understood, but just not been impressed by Corbyn, and their judgement’s not bad usually like is it?
Anyway, there’s football on & It’s not gonna watch itself ✊
Thanks for all the great content, love AFQ especially when Timo is a guest, just an observation and I know trying to find a tory who voted for Brexit is a rare as rocking horse shite around the TAW player office but bearing in mind they make up around 50% of voters it may be an idea to get an apposing view?
I know the media intelligencer represented by Rory may find this hard to believe but the public are more than capable of making there minds up as to the best thing to do without the media intervention , I and many others were not brainwashed in believing that all the proceeds saved by coming out of the E.U would go to the health service, I voted for Brexit in the belief that the country is better served by having elected members of parliament voted for by the people of this country, not a bunch of unelected beaurocrats in Brussels.
Clearly Liverpool has had massive E. U investment pumped into it, this has not been replicated across the country in areas where it has also been needed so I ask the Question if Liverpool had been left as the likes of South West, Wales and North East would you all be so Euro file as you are?
There is nothing wrong with believing you would feel the same, but there is also nothing wrong with believing that the reason the majority voted for Brexit was because they felt it really is the right thing to do , not because of some xenophobic, foreign hating little England agenda brainwashed by the right wing media which is trotted out every time this is discussed but because resources are stretched to breaking point and we need more control. Its not a question of rounding up all foreign workers sending them back and not letting any more in, this has never been suggested but being in control of the amounts and filling the holes where we are short basically through miss management from successive governments on all sides.
On listening to you guys over the last year I have a much better understanding of why Liverpool votes and feels the way it does about the Tories and Brexit , I don’t agree with some of what is said but respect it, it would be good if the likes of Rory tried to do the same without thinking all Brexiteers are right wing Daily Mail reading half wits.
Finally lads after 40 year of supporting the reds I never thought listening to podcasts could add so much enjoyment to supporting my club, all of you involved Thanks
voted for Brexit in the belief that the country is better served by having elected members of parliament voted for by the people of this country, not a bunch of unelected beaurocrats in Brussels.
So, then how do you feel about Tory leadership doing the Article 50 negotiations without any input from Parliament? Or you? You really want Davis and May and Boris negotiating with 27 countries all of whom have a veto and you just sit there in the dark?
They lied about the benefits and they won’t tell anyone what positions they will take in the negotiations? Risible.
I will give you credit, though, you were kept in the blind going in and coming out but you still have faith in this government?
One of the best pods ever that, I am going to listen to the Brexit and Labour stuff again, (why doest Labour like the EU?) you should do more on this sort of stuff because you are all very good and like the footie chat it is far more focused and accessible than what is put out on the mainstream media about the subject. I would like you to try and find someone that voted for brexit to be on and explain why they voted, and for it not to be a piss take but as Neil would say to drill down and find out the real reasons.
Brexit has hit our family hard because my wife is French, I am from the Lakes and our three kids always thought of themselves as being European, over the past 14 years we have spent 7 in the UK and 7 in France, we have enjoyed the free movement of work, trade and education (each of our kids spent 3 years in primary school in France and the UK) and overnight this has now gone and my 15 yr old daughter is complemented by some old giffers in the cafe she worked at during the summer by saying how nice it was not to be served by one of those horrible European Immigrants. To be fare to her she tipped a bowl of soup over them, said she was French, glared at them with as much Parisian contempt as she could muster, turned, and stormed off. She does genuinly want to know where all this anti-Eu stuff comes from and I cant explain this because I dont know anyone that voted to leave, all the hill farmers I grew up with have survived on EU subsidies for years and all the people i work with in architecture and real estate are either French or German and most of the construction, health and saftey, environmental and access for people of reduced mobilty laws we work to are derived from EU directives and are generally seen as a good thing making better and safer working and living environments.
Fantastic AFQ this week, I often think about what political reform would be best if it were at all possible, mainly because I feel I have to vote but sometimes it’s like choosing between a shit sandwich or vomit milkshake. I honestly behave that we have now become a country that votes for change without thought for the concequences! I think the b st thing would be for policies to be anonymous prior to voting, it would be documented but not discussed and therefore voters would 1. Have to read the policy 2. Not carry over habitual party voting patterns. Overall – the team that write the policy are measured against the delivery of the policy and sacked if they fail. This would mean multi party departments and would need a neutral figurehead – but I think someone with charisma would put themselves forward for that! But what do I know eh? The fitness egg will tell me I’m wrong anyway!
Appreciate the reply but come on Koolhand you seem to be sudgesting the Brexit side were the only ones doing any scaremongering, remember Ousboure telling us all how there would have to be an emergency budget and house prices would fall etc etc, to all there detriment lies on all sides
We are one of the biggest trading nations in the World, do you think May and her like has no chips to bargain with?
I have to give you credit for having faith in an unelected European parlement than an elected one who’s best interest is served doing the best for people living and working in this country where ever they are from, if they fail I can vote them out, can you say the same for John Claude Younker?
