The Anfield Wrap gives its listenership the choice of three subjects for discussion prior to every Wildcards show. The listeners choose one of three options for matters on the current LFC, the historical view, the game of football as a whole and, lastly, a non-football related topic.
Neil Atkinson hosts Rob Gutmann, John Gibbons, Ben Johnson and Rory Smith for the latest edition of our popular Wildcards show, on the board for debate this week:
– Lucas Leiva
– Overrated youngsters
– The Olympics
Got so many youngsters I loved.
Thought Wisdom and Sama were going to nail down the CB pairing for the next 10 years.
Gerardo Bruma was one of my favourites. Loved the lad thought he’d be quality always looked good in the youth teams. Mad thing was a couple of years ago I was at a Tranmere league cup game and this lad came on who I recognised, couldn’t for the life of me think who we was and found out on my phone it was him. Mad. That was his only game from them in his one month contract, at Ottawa Fury now at 25.
Toni Silva was another, had pace and power and excited me immensely. Playing in the Portuguese second division now.
Then there is the obvious ones like Pacheco, Suso and that.
Lets just hope Trent, Woodburn, Ejaria, Lennon and Gomes don’t follow in their footsteps.
Plessis was another actually. Genuinely thought he’d be what Pogba is today.
So did I after that debut at the Emirates!
Ben Johnson’s descriptions of Lucas Leiva’s abilities: good comedy, but completely and utterly divorced from empirical reality.
The sad thing is that he wouldn’t change his tune even if presented with video of 20 separate occasions in which Lucas, during a competitive match last season and before he got injured during this pre-season, performed EXACTLY what Ben Johnson confidently claimed he could no longer do.
I think you maybe doing Ben a disservice here,
It’s a light hearted show and Ben was following this line, I’m sure he recognises how good Lucas was at times and but for some cruel injuries as he was really making his mark we would be talking/viewing Lucas in a much different light.
Pissed myself laughing through most of this show,
Best one yet.
