IN this TAW Player special Andy Heaton chats to Rob Gutmann and Dan Vincent about the news of a new six-year contract for Liverpool manager Jürgen Klopp.
What do the lads think about Fenway Sports Group rewarding Klopp with such a lengthy and empowering contract only nine months in his tenure at Liverpool FC?
Does Klopp having ultimate power clear away the lack of accountability around the position of manager and who is responsible for what?
Six years is a massive commitment from both the club and the manager, was it risk worth taking for both parties?
All that and more in our Klopp contract reaction special.
I think this new deal for Klopp reveals several things:
Klopp realized that LFC was a bigger project and needed more time than he’d originally thought, and this contract is designed to give him the cushion to deal with the rough patches as he builds back to a perennial contender.
FSG realized that Klopp was likely the best they would ever have a chance to sign, and they want to keep him, and feel comfortable turning the entire football side of things over to him.
Klopp is enamored enough with the club envision himself here for a long time.
Is it at all possible that tying down one of the best managers in the world is perhaps related to a potential sale of the club? We had rumours a few weeks ago which have petered out, then this comes out of the blue…maybe tying him down was a condition of a future sale or investment?
