THIS was originally a TAW Player show but, as today is the 15th year anniversary of our UEFA Cup victory against Alaves we have decided to put it out for free. Hope you enjoy!
Gareth Roberts and John Gibbons were joined by Tony Barrett and Dave Rawcliffe in a Dortmund bar to rewind the clock 15 years and remember the Uefa Cup Final of 2001.
That game versus Alaves at the Westfalenstadion was Liverpool’s first final on the continent since 1985 and a chance for a generation of Reds to make their own Euro trip stories after years of hearing the tales of others.
The lads remember the trip there, the day in the square and Erik Meijer’s appearance on the ale.
And there was the match itself, one of the madder European finals, before a interesting situation at the airport for the journey home.
Nice show lads. What a mad final that was! Events in New York a few months later mean that the tale about being ushered onto the planes in such a haphazard way is unlikely to be repeated.
Great idea for a show, lads. Keep them coming please!
I couldn’t take my ears off this show! Love WWCH shows for these type of stories about how it felt around seasons- but this is brilliant, loved the travel stories- can we have some more please???
Great stuff. This brought back many memories for me. Thank you!
Hey – here’s an idea for you. Imagine if you could do a similar show based on the ECWC Final of 1966. I’m sure there are a few red stalwarts knocking around who made the trip to Glasgow. And your friends at the Yellow Wall could find some supporters who made the trip from Dortmund to give their memories of the final too? In the days before budget airlines and internet forums I reckon the previous generation were the real pioneers of European away days!
Boss show. More please
