MELISSA REDDY is joined by Tony Barrett and Steve Hothersall as they get stuck into the major topics surrounding Liverpool in the latest edition of ‘Full Stop’.
Deal or no deal with Jordan Henderson, where does the Wearsider fit in to Jurgen Klopp’s long term plans?
Whose captaincy is it anyway? Is the armband weighing heavy on Henderson’s arm or is he just having a season to forget with injury and poor form?
And is it bye bye Christian Benteke? A parting of the ways almost now seems inevitable after the Belgian’s international duty outburst.
It’s a goodie and it’s where we put the ‘Full Stop’.
Good show though I disagree on certain points.
On the captaincy. In England too much value is placed on what a “captain” should bring or do. Or what his personality should be like. We really need to get away from this image of Moore, Butcher, Adams screamer and shouting ideology..
Dortmund’s captain under Klopp was Sebastian Kehl, one of the most unassuming men but extremely intelligent and not even capped that many times by Germany but he was exactly what was needed…Steady and consistent.
On Sahko, I see no need to get rid of him now, to quote philosopher Jay Z..”We have 99 problems but Sahko aint 1″. Matip needs time to settle in the league, Joe Gomez ( the best long term bet) is also coming back from a huge injury again time needed. We just dont need another new face to integrate…Save the money and work on another position. Skertl is no longer fit for purpose.
Kolo is old.
On Benteke, I will hold on to him, unless I find a decent replacement.I could see 100% why he was bought and it makes sense as we needed league goals.
Benteke scores Premier league goals and lots of them.
With Ings back and Origi improving only a top class player will improve on what we have..
The spine of the team especially a goalkeeper a central midfielder and a striker is enough…I also have big hopes for a more mature Markovic..
I would supplement the rest with youth players..
The transfer work must be targeted with quality and not numbers…
Thanks
Great show Melissa, keep up the good work. Only thing I’d like to add to Tony’s list is Daniel Sturridge: it’s no coincidence that our improvement coincides with his return to the team.
More of ‘Gorgeous’ Tony Barrett.
Really enjoyed the conversation on the captaincy and Henderson’s future. On Henderson, I wonder if the club is holding back on the true extent of his injury and possible effects on his future, on this Kloppos most recent comments start to make sense and you would wonder if the club is thinking of cashing in while they can.
On Sturridge, he reminds me of guys I’ve played with(Not on his level obviously), running around in second gear afraid to be injured again, where in actual fact the best thing for him would to be absolutely creased and just get up and dust himself down and see he’s fine. Its all in my head. I can do this. I’m not injured. Next ball please.
On the Show, I’ve loved them so far and would love to hear more of them. Great work Melissa.
Ps. A show with Si Hughes, Tony and Jonathon Norcroft that just never ended would be fantastic.
Brilliant show Melissa. Need more of them I think. I would love to know what sort of strikers Klopp would be in the market for. Because I am of the viewpoint that he does need another one and that Benteke should be moved on. Also, so James above mentioned Markovic and I completely forgot about him to be honest. It will be interesting to see if he stays and Jürgen decides to bring in another wide player.
