HOW better to start the week in which Liverpool face Manchester City in the Capital One Cup Final than a look back at each of their previous final appearances in this competition?
In Mike Nevin and Gary Shaw we have just the men to guide you through 1978 to, 1987 along with Neil Atkinson. This is part one of an Anfield Wrap two part special.
It starts with (we hate) Nottingham Forest in 1978 and then shift into a run of four finals against West Ham, Tottenham Hotspur, Manchester United and Everton. Finally a record goes out of the window as Liverpool crash to defeat against Arsenal in 1987.
Along Wembley way we learn more about Pat Partridge, Ronnie Whelan and Alan Kennedy, all key figures in the finals in this period.
The Reds have never made a competition their own the way they took the league cup on back in the early 80s. Find out all about it here on What We Call History.
interesting point on us struggling in the FA cup whilst winning the league cup in the early 80s
1982 Spurs – reached the FA cup final, 1983 – united made the FA cup final, 1984 – Everton made the FA cup final….we lose to Chelsea and brighton!
Great special feature. This is exactly the kind of content I want as a subscriber. Thanks lads!
First league cup final at Wembley was in 1967 not 1972 as stated.
