NEIL ATKINSON hosts a show in three parts and his guests are Rob Gutmann, Paul Senior and Stephen Evans.
The first part is about Liverpool’s good performance and late capitulation against Sunderland. The goalkeeper comes in for extensive criticism after Liverpool’s more patient approach is praised especially in the guise of Moreno and Emre Can.
Firmino receives his share of the plaudits and the situation around the captain is discussed. But Mignolet. Oh Mignolet. To have turned a run of the mill 2-0 win into defeat was dreadful and patience for him is in short supply.
The second part is about the walk out. The pressure on both Chapel St and Boston is building as 15,000 walked out of Anfield due to the ticket prices increases in the context of 20 years of football clubs seeing what they can get away with. This is discussed by Rob, Paul and Stephen.
Lastly West Ham is looked forward to. What should Klopp do? What is now the right approach.
It’s extensive, it’s thorough, it’s The Anfield Wrap.
Should it not be Rob Gutmann of the Guardian!
Spot on re The Ming. He was feeling confident after the penalty saves. With the free kick he’s showing Johnson the near post and telling him to have a go. Backed himself to save anything Johnson hits, to consolidate his good performance v Stoke. Sadly it backfired hugely.
Who the fuck is our goalkeeping coach again? Fuck me, I’m dead certain could do a better job.

Introducing Sturridge & Coutinho around 60 and Origi if we go ET
Brilliant show lads – captured the current mood superbly – we will beat West ham tomorrow – that 2001 thing is happening – shite league and magic in the cups
I think if you were behind and participated in the walkout, you should feel happy that what followed was that 3 points became just 1.
Surely you want to make a point that the fans contribution to the cause represents more than being a major part of the cash cow?
Maybe we would have thrown the lead away anyway? It wouldn’t have been the first time. Those who were protesting should accept that Sunderland’s recovery was a major coup for them and vindication for their cause.
If Liverpool had scored a 3rd following the walkout and just won 3-0, press coverage of the protest would have been much more subdued. If the goal had been an unmissable worldie, the press would have just mocked the fans.
All of our league games are effectively dead-rubbers now. All things considered, the capitulation was the best possible result for those fans who voted with their feet.
With our league season now being over, fans have an opportunity to completely stay away from domestic home games until the end of the season. Then they can make a decision on whether or not to renew their season tickets.
I would argue that most Liverpool match-going fans would enjoy protesting outside the ground more than watching the awful football that is being played inside it. They would make more noise and feel a camaraderie they would never experience on the other side of the turnstiles in this campaign.
If perhaps 1000 of the 10k+ that walked out against Sunderland could mobilise themselves, spending an hour outside the ground talking to those queueing-up and attempt to persuade them to not go in then they might create some kind of movement that could be the foundation for some kind of change.
If the board stand firm though, the only option is for fans to each make an individual decision not to pay-up again in the Summer. If the season tickets are all sold, any changes to planned ticket price hikes will be insignificant.
Liverpool fans can win, but only if they stick together and stay away. FSG don’t think that they are capable of doing this.
They are probably right.
Good show las. Think Rob’s right about the return of long ball football. Have been making the same point myself. It’ll win the PL, won’t win anything in Europe.
Re the Mignolet situation….how have we given him a new contract with a pay rise?? Just how?? Has he earned it?? No.
Every action and word to come out of the club suggests he’s gonna be our no1 keeper for some time yet….and I’m completely baffled by that decision.
Completely agree with the guys when they say we could just do with a consistent 7/10 every week keeper. A keeper who comes for what he should, saves what he should and with decent distribution.
If the decision is made to get rid in the summer the how do you do that with 5yrs on his contract and earning big money, nevermind the fact he can’t be relied on?
Re central defenders….the need for ball playing central defenders is a myth. Cast your mind back over the last 20 or so years and think about the best central defenders about. Bar Ferdinand the rest are proper no nonsense central defenders who just love to defend. The defend first and everything else comes secondary. Carra, Hyypia, Terry, Vidic, Adams etc etc
We need 2 guys in there who just love to defend and are happy with their lot.
Re Hendo……..I’ve had plantar facititis and it’s extremely painful. Simply walking can be very difficult so I can’t imagine trying to run or play a match with it. Physiotherapy and certain exercises relieved it. It’s still comes back now and again but as soon as I feel it I’ll be working on it again to relieve it.
Henderson should not be starting matches or playing at all if he’s struggling to walk. There’s work he can do to relieve it away from the pitch.
It’s not like we’re short of midfielders who can step in. In our current predicament the last thing we need to be doing is carrying a n injured player through a game. It just doesn’t make sense to play him.
