A REALLY strange day. The game had a feel of a friendly first half as Liverpool strolled into a 2-0 lead without much effort and Villa looked pretty disinterested.
Maybe it was the fact we all had the sun in our eyes throughout the first half so it was all a bit squinty. Or maybe it was the fact we started 11th and they are truly terrible. But our end never even really got going today, and you wouldn’t say any of our players were terrific either. We just casually beat them 6-0.
But we’re positive, winning and suddenly plentiful in attack. Not all our worries are over. But I would imagine Manchester City are a bit more worried than they were. The Reds might be coming up a hill.
Simon Mignolet 7
Nice punch at 0-0. Handled it well on their rare attacks.
Nathaniel Clyne 8
Gets his first league goal for the reds, and was a great option all game.
Alberto Moreno 7
A touch quiet with everything else going on. But quietly effective is fine. Better than loudly dreadful.
Kolo Toure 8
Will never score an easier goal, but it was still a lovely moment. Couldn’t fault him defensively either.
Mamadou Sakho 7
Will have enjoyed a game to help him ease back in. Was there on the rare occasions he was needed.
Emre Can 8
We might look back on this as a really important season for Emre. Seems to be growing in stature and its a lovely strike for the goal. Like an old pro.
Jordan Henderson 7
Just positive he got through 90 unscathed, really. Looked more comfortable in his body.
James Milner 7
His delivery from wide is a real asset. Underrated player.
Roberto Firmino 8
Neither Brazilian got a goal, which is a bit mad really, but both were bright as a button. The quality of Bobby’s final ball and work rate were phenomenal.
Philippe Coutinho 8
Bet I like him more than you. Terrific cross for the first. Then kept doing wonderful things.
Daniel Sturridge 7
Not quite at full throttle but gets the goal that sets us on our way. Just seems to make everyone feel really Zen. Which means we score loads of goals.
SUBS
Divock Origi 7
Came on and kicked it right in the goal.
Kevin Stewart 7
Pretty much my favourite player. Lovely clipped ball to send us off down the right.
Christian Benteke 5
Shame we couldn’t get him a goal.
Tremendous. What a difference Daniel Sturridge makes to this team.
Villa were awful. Lets start doing this to the numerable awful teams in this league and everything will seem better. Kolo, you legend!
This is exactly what we need to be doing. Shoving teams like Villa around the playground and taking their dinner money.
Some of the touches from the Brazilian boys today left me speechless. Hope Sturridge and Coutinho can stay fit for the remqinder – I can’t handle a world where these guys get injured again.
Hope we left Benteke in Birmingham the painfully slow party pooper. We’re trying to beat Villa 10-0 here mate; get with the program.
I realise I’m a miserable prick when we’ve just battered someone but is no one else irked we’ve made a series of decisions since the end of 2013/14 that sees us on the outside looking in on an after today, probable Arsenal-Tottenham title race?
Our goal difference now though!? Getting a nose bleed here.
Tom, you need to give yourself a break!
If you’re not thinking about Kolos brainfart at WBA you’re feeling Crocked in solidarity with Studge.
I know, I just look at the table and it kills me off.
Plus I’ve just watched Barca then and some of the shit their front 3 come up with shouldn’t be allowed. Those fuckers took Suarez off us after he was banned from ‘all football activity’ for however many months and then their transfer embargo kicked in just after he signed as well? It was a blatant fiddle in plain sight of the watching world. I promise I’ll take this tin foil hat off and get over Suarez when Klopp wins us the league.
Valentine’s kiss guy: NINE POINT FIVE. (-0.5 for missing Origi’s lips by a few cm:)
I love Coutinhio more than you.
Am interesting stat is that Man Citeh have not beaten anybody in the top 6 this season. So you could end up champions by beating enough of the rest. Paradox is that Rafa missed out on the title by losing two games only, each to teams that were relegated.
We were beaten by Tottenham and Middlesbrough that season. Spurs stayed up.
My mistake: Spurs finished 8th and Boro went down.
Correct me if I’m wrong, but I’m sure we made history that season by becoming the only team to have ever lost less than 3 league games in a season and not won the title. Could only happen to us that!
Not saying he’s anything like Getrard, but Can’s goal reminded me of a Gerrard, Scholes, Lampard finish. Despatched with ease
Moreno was quality going forward because he had options.
16 out of his 18 passes were successful in the top third of the field…..
He was Defo my MOTM…. Credit if it’s due
