WE’VE signed a Caulker, lad!
It’s The Anfield Wrap’s new daily Wrap Up and today our quickfire show’s main focus is the shock emergency loan move for QPR defender Steven Caulker – no one saw that coming did they?
So what should we make of it? Should we be lighting the torches and marching on Anfield at this disgraceful scraping of the barrel? Or should we be glad that a 24-year-old with significant Premier League experience has now made the likelihood of Jose Enrique at centre half a dim and distant dark dream?
Neil Atkinson and Gareth Roberts also touch on the latest injury setback for the unfortunate Divock Origi while marvelling at the madness of Shelvey to Newcastle for 12 million big ones. Football, eh?
It’s a funny old game.
Really enjoying these. Short daily news bulletins, a great addition to the podcast roster!
Caulker played 35 times for QPR in 14/15 season.
QPR finished bottom of the league, conceding 73 goals – 10 more than any other team.
The “transfer committee” does it again.
Lovin these bite size fixes lads. They definitely add value. Keep up! We’ll beat Arsenal Wednesday
Sorry but I can’t see past bringing someone in instead of Caulker. We find ourselves 12 points behind the top spot, we play the leaders tomorrow and have home advantage, we’ve been away to Man City, Man Utd, Spurs, Chelsea and Arsenal already in a league Gary Lineker describes as ‘the league nobody wants to win’, we’ve got a manager in Jurgen Klopp that seems to know what he’s on about when he’s doing the football and we need a centre half and a goalkeeper, as the ones we have are either ripping their tights or simply not good enough.
Why not bring someone in that might cost more, but will solidify us enough, so that IF the penny drops with the players under Klopp, we can push on and perhaps emerge as a surprise contender.
During the 13/14 season, Arsenal sat top of the table when we demolished Spurs. That, to my mind was the moment the penny dropped under Rodgers that season.
I know the circumstances were much different, given we had Suarez etc. But I’d still like to have brought someone in that will benefit us long term. Remember Sturbridge and Coutinho were brought in during a January window. Even if we’re looking to next season, Klopp should be bringing in someone that can be bedded in rather than Caulker.
Hope he does well though!
Klopp has probably tried but like many teams no one is willing to sell Liverpool a quality player at this point of the season. Coutinho and Sturridge at the time were getting no game time so it was easier for their respective clubs to sell. They just so happen to hit the ground running straight away. Suarez was still raw when Liverpool bought him in the Jan transfer window and it took a decent 18 months before he was transformed into a world class player.
Great and neat little daily updates. Enjoying them on the way to work. Keep up the good work!
