ANOTHER Sad Sunday. Only one win in six after Europa League football. But where we tired? Or clueless? Or can we just not defend set pieces?
Make your own mind up. I’m just here to give scores.
Simon Mignolet 3
Looks awful for the first. Little positive after that. Punched instead of catching. Although has been clearly told to release quicker.
Nathaniel Clyne 5
Could have offered more going forward. Feels like he could have done with a week off.
Alberto Moreno 5
Quiet game all in. We might end up thinking about Brad Smith’s left-foot wand in home games soon. Sure Benteke is.
Martin Skrtel 5
Might want to look at the fact we are always conceding from set pieces and he’s always there.
Dejan Lovren 5
Got himself injured. Played. Fancy Watford, Mamadou?
Emre Can 7
Played well. Loved him at centre back. Maybe he can play there at Watford.
Jordan Henderson 7
Great goal. Should have set us on the way to a famous (ish) win. But his keeper had other ideas.
James Milner 5
Nothing of note. Making a mockery of my “always contributes something” shout. As if on purpose. Why would you do that, James?
Adam Lallana 5
Nice knockdown for the goal, but just has to score at 2-1. Has loads of the goal to kick it in.
Philippe Coutinho 6
Feeling his way back.
Christian Benteke 5
Couple of half chances he could have made more of. Aside from that he seemed like a pigeon at a crow convention.
SUBS
Jordon Ibe 5: Dribbled fairly well.
Divock Origi 6: He gets the ball, he scores a goal. Lively, too. Becoming a good option.
Roberto Firmino 5: Looks like it’s all too much hassle.
Generous to Mignolet that ☺
They had two shots, scored twice. Mig didn’t make a single save, but was to blame for at least one goal. He’s returning to the form that had Rodgers drop him. We aren’t going anywhere upwards with this clown in goal, if we don’t find another 60 goals a season.
Ming deserves a zero…
(after Klopp backed him publicly, I thought I would start supporting this keeper, but not anymore.)
we need a new keeper in January window…or at least give Bogdan a run of games…Ming has had enough opportunities and enough’s enough.
if we don’t want to spend, at least being back our young keeper from.Aberdeen.
Firmino does not look interested…he once again pulled back from a 50-50 challenge.
Origi deserves a start for the next March.
So you’d have someone go in for a 50/50 in the middle of nowhere with nothing at stake? Didn’t you see what happened to Lovren. You can block the play just as easily by cutting other passes, plus you get to play on.
You’re probably the kind that wanks off to “good engines, ah get in, son, break his legs,” like others here.
he did similar thing in Newcastle…
Would StevieG, Hendo, or anyone else in the current team including Benteke pull out from 50-50 challenges? I don’t think.so.
there was still possibility of 3 points to be won.
Yes, I would. If its a 50/50 the Pool player makes it a 51/49 and wins the fkn ball!
“deserves a start next march” – Bit harsh! (sorry, silly mood)
haha. a good one. Bloody spell auto correct on the phone…
Agree with most of those. Mignolet is old news – not good enough. Milner and Lallana are always around the 5 mark to most objective viewers. Should be on the bench. Benteke is proving to be the rigid problem most knew he would be in our team.
Yeah spot on over Benteke. Didn’t take a genius to work that out over the Summer. He’s got bags of talent (United goal) and if you just allow him time and space in the box he can punish you (Chelsea goal) but most of our squad doesn’t want to play with a big man who can’t really run so please, for the love of Christ, could we stop buying them.
He’s an improvement on Balotelli and Lambert but how much is that saying. We’ve been through this before and seemingly came out the other side having learnt nothing from last season. Didn’t think I’d say this the other month when Origi just didn’t look up to senior football but I wouldn’t mind seeing him get a chance from the start just give Coutinho and Firmino something to play with.
Shame really; Benteke would be a great signing for Houllier or Benitez the way they used Heskey and Crouch, but it’s nearly 2016. You have to build your team around your best player in Coutinho and so I don’t want to watch us spend tons of money on one paced no. 9s when we’re trying to compete with four richer teams in this league (that is still up for grabs if we fuck the keeper off).
The horse’s head in “The Godfather ” is an improvement over Balotelli.
Don’t think anyone in the side but Hendo and Phil earn above a 5 for me, all looked completely uninterested. Pulis’ bulldog Gardner needs a significant ban for that absolutely daft tackle to break Lovren’s leg. Puli’s himself can f— right off if he thinks they deserve a point, hardly deserved to have 11 players on the field. Thought the ref might give Benteke and assist since Olsson was playing him like stink on shit couldn’t believe he didn’t blow up at least once.
why Skertal getting blamed for other peoples mistakes why is Milner playing when Lucas is on bench especially against big side like w b a rest I agree with heard we’re going to sign Jesus Christ better on crosses than Mignolet
It’s spelt Skrtel – it’s Slovakian for ‘a bit crap at set pieces’…..
Simon Mignolet. Klopp said he should come out and help. If he comes out and help other team like that we are done. Remember norwich this season.
Stopped reading after Lovren got himself injured.
Really wanted Mignolet to find his feet eventually, but he’s proved time and time again that he’s an absolutely wally and a liability. He’s cost us more than his fair share of points in recent time. Couldn’t agree more with the calls to give Bogdan a run of games.
Am i only one who noticed benteke spent the game standing behind the defender hiding from the ball? We are a much much better team when he isnt in it.
Benteke really looks the definitive porcine cutlet at a hasidic post-espousal function.
A chip in the sugar.
Can we rate the crowd? I’d give them a solid 8. Disappointing result, but at least there was some atmosphere and support. It went quiet after we went behind, but to be fair, they gathered themselves and started signing even before Klopp did his cheerleader number.
The sight of the team doing the hand-holding thing at the end was a bit weird though. Nice to show they appreciate the support, but the hand-holding thing? Isn’t that what you do when you win a cup final rather than snatch a draw with WBA? Think a couple of them were a bit embarrassed to be doing that, but it’s the thought that counts I guess…
Bogdan in.
@Pete and all the others:
” but the hand-holding thing? Isn’t that what you do when you win a cup final rather than snatch a draw”
This is not about celebrating the result, but about celebrating the supporters/fans commitment. Exercised every weekend over in Germany. I am just a- and bemused that there has been so much talk about this (not only on TAW).
Won’t be so weird when we are winning more frequently and convincingly. lol
Overly, I didn’t feel that sad.
I love Klopp to bits, but did he have to instigate the Morris dance number at the end. It was fukkin West Brom after all. Watching all the highlights from the other games, seems we have the worst goalkeeper in the division. I’m sure there is one playing on Buckley hill that has more of a clue than the butcher.
‘Martin Skrtel 5
Might want to look at the fact we are always conceding from set pieces and he’s always there.’
Yes, John! Melissa Reddy called it in the pre-match press conference as well regarding our shit showing at set pieces.
At least Palace have pace going for them and someone like Cabaye who can actually play football. West Brom were a woeful football team front to back and talent wise would be going down if they didn’t have Pulis Pulising. Couldn’t string passes together. A weighty lad waddling about up front. We just had to give them some freebie goals that you cold see coming before the kicks were taken. Spirit of Christmas and all that.
Are Bournemouth and Newcastle considered form teams now that they’ve back-to-backed upsets. This league is total dogshit.
If the league is dog-shit, it doesn’t say much for our players rotting in mid-table. And don’t blame Skrtel for Mig’s shit effort. Sucking up to duck face won’t get you in her underwear.
I think Mignolet’s got more of a flat, pan face with a massive square telly head but I’d prefer to talk about his game rather than insult what he looks like (… Oops).
I think they both need replacing and after yesterday the cat has definitely made himself the priority. Neither of them should be starting for us next season that’s for sure.
And you think this league is not utter dross? Based on us being mid table when we flat out refuse to defend corners? That West Brom team will be very, very safe by the end of the season you know, mate. And they can’t play football. Have a think.
Please don’t do that. Totally unnecessary, inappropriate and off topic.
How the F**k did Lallana (who usually like and defend) MISS THAT SITTER? He could’ve taken another touch and kept’ going, the keeper would’ve then had to bring him down, or, he’d’ve had an empty net to slot it in to. It looked liked he was trying to do the same as he did against Bordeaux where he poked it in the far corner. Good save, but come on, why are Daniel Sturridge and occasionally Hendo’ the Only forwards we have with ANY (I’ve gone a bit “CAPS LOCK” – Sorry), Composure, in front of goal. It’s criminal with all the money spent. Benteke misses so many 2 yarders it’s ridiculous. I’m not going to start on Migs or are (how long has it been since Rafa?) eternal quest to be able to defend a set piece, as I’ve other things to do this week, month…..lifetime! Love our Boss, he’s just…Boss!!
“pigeon at a crow convention” yes lad!!!!
Allen must be wondering what the hell he has to do to overtake Milner. Southampton display was far better than anything Milner has offered all season. Against Newcastle he’s one of the only players who could be arsed. Wasn’t even in the squad for Switzerland.
It’d be nice to get back to a meritocracy. It wasn’t like Milner was whipping in breath-taking crosses. In fact, I’d be rather content to never see him take a corner again. I’m not going to say he’s rubbish – I know he’s got quality in there somethere – but form should count for something.
There is no extra talent hidden in there for anybody to see. What he shows every week is what he’s got. He works hard and he is very committed to the course but he is not a good talented footballer. At least not good enough to start matches for us. I can’t stop crying about this. Stop playing Milner! Please stop!!! Stop!
That Mignolet is still playing for us tells you how fucked we are. We have no pride. Chelsea will not take that shit from him and they are way below us. Klopp might be loved and all but what was on play in this game was very Rodgers like. Things have gradually returned to the Rodgers days. He must be revolutionary and chart a different course or all the goodwill will soon turn to badwill. We want to start hearing vibes that he wants to recruit better players and not keep backing shit players signed by a total idiot who stole his salary for 3 years.
Up to the beginning of this season ive been a fan of Mignolet preferring to focus on his excellent shot stopping ability which saved us many goals during the 2 previous seasons.
Then we arrive at this season and his inadequacies around the 6yd box woeful kicking and distribution. Quite frankly he has regressed alarmingly and it is time to take him out of the side.
Where I sort of sympathise with him is with his kicking. What kind of academy allows any young player including goal keepers not to have the ability to kick a ball?? It defies belief and wherever be played as a kid should be totally embarrassed and ashamed of themselves because they have let him down badly. That said the lad has to take it on the chin with his fair share of responsibility. Absolutely mind boggling!!!
The reality of the shite footy (Pulis) has clearly hit Klopp hard.
Fortunately Firmimio,Coutinho and Can with Klopp will deliver us from homelessness.
Something Bodgers could never do, and this his team, after all.
Klopp needs to rebuild. More so than Rodgers had to when he replaced KK.
It’s the same committee calling the shots.
“I would rather have one or two absolute top players than seven that might not help us.
“It’s about the quality. We can’t be going into the Champions League this year with doubts about players. We have to be going in knowing what the players’ capacity to play is and their capabilities.”
That was days after going 26-6-6 with the most goals this club has seen since the 19th century from the same guy who said, “I can categorically tell you Mario Balotelli will not be at Liverpool” a few months later.
Now, where did we put that magic wand?
A lot of folks often say that Mignolet is a decent ‘shot stopper’, but that’s like saying a butcher is a decent with a knife, that’s the minimum requirement for someone between the sticks.
He’s an absolute clown, tries hard, but you just know he’s going to make a massive clanger every couple of games or so. Even when Reina went through bad form at the end of his Liverpool shift, he was never quite that bad, and he didn’t spread his lack of confidence through the back four either.
You build a team from the back, and until we’ve got a commanding keeper who is willing to clear everyone out and actually catch a ball on a set piece, then it’s going to be same old same old against physical teams who like to play hoofball.
Well, some of these players were worldbeaters when we beat City and Saints. Now they’re all shite.Funny that.
Nice of Klopp to blame himself for Minge’s error but unfortunately he lacks the anticipation and bravery to be a top keeper, at the moment anyway.
Adam Lallana on the front post at corners?
Don’t underestimate the detrimental effect of European games on league form and expect to see those teams improve between now and February. We might even see Chelsea win a game soon.
Atmosphere..you’ve got to be there first.
Anfield Road lower….fella next to me got off on 71…yes SEVENTY ONE. Didn’t sing or open his gob once for whole game. Fella 2 up with his half/half scarf from somewhere in Asia was more interested in filming than watching and supporting.
He frigging laughed when they scored their 2nd. WTF.
Bring back standing on the terraces !!!
MIGNOLET – FFS…3 is generous
