It was time for Rodgers to go… But God how good was that 13/14 season! Rodgers deserves better and a lot more respect from a certain section of the fans. All the best to him.
dont know if you will read this but honestly lads that was fucking outstanding the smarmy cunts on my timeline when it was announced honestly made my fuckin blood boil had to come off it, this has been so refreshing , tx brendan all the best
We entered 2010 with Benitez as our manager, and five years later we’ll finish the year with our fourth different manager since then. When did “We are Liverpool” cease to be a statement of defiance and become an affirmation of entitlement? We may “be” Liverpool, but as a club we’re behaving like Spurs, and have done since Rafa left. It has come to this.
Thanks Brendan for the outstanding work and contribution you’ve made at LFC and that it sincerely without doubt the truth of the matter. It’s just ashame you couldn’t take us all the way to the promised land.
You were almost left alone to run the entire club from a game perspective when we clearly need a City based CEO to help share the burden and ultimately help the manager do his job and achieve success. Because it won’t happen unless there is a fundamental change to the structure. And that’s true no matter who is the next manager. Ian Ayre is not that man and to be fair to him it’s not his area of expertise. Whilst the owners pissed around 3000 miles away even you probably realise at this stage of your career naturally you have your own limitations and that is fully justifiable.
However it is best all round for yourself to go elsewhere and continue your career and I’m certain when you reflect upon certain events and decisions over the last 12 months or so it will make you a better manager than you are already. And as the boys say in this pod cast, its also time for LFC to appoint the next man and let him take what is generally a very talented squad to the next level in the never ending quest to deliver us back to where we belong. All the best Brendan. YNWA
Spot on. The revisionism and points scoring is risible and gets us where exactly? Back to a split, toxic Anfield?
2013/14 was the most fun I’ve had as a Liverpool supporter since the late 70s. it felt like we were building again, like Anfield was a fortress. The fans welcoming the bus? That wasn’t a mirage. That was joy. That kind of spirit doesn’t just emerge from nowhere, it needs to be fostered, harnessed, husbanded. It was a great season and we should all be grateful. It’s a crying shame we weren’t able to build on it on and off the field.
Thank you Brendan, for all your hard work in the most trying of circumstances and with the most demanding of supporters, and good luck!
Now let’s get behind the new manager. Over to you FSG.
One more thing: if I have to read about Rodgers’ tactical naivety against Chelsea or Palace one more time I’ll go spare. We lost to Chelsea because the skipper slipped on his arse and the ref didn’t deal with Chelsea’s cheating. And we were knackered. No amount of post hoc excuses or revisionism changes that. It was a tragedy for all involved but let’s remember we were 42 minutes in and were comfortably holding Chelsea 0-0. They didn’t score another goal until injury time. It wasn’t the fucking tactics – what was he supposed to say to the players? Stop doing what you’ve been doing all season and play in a way you’ve never played before?
Jesus yes, everything you say about that Chelsea game. It’s produced some of most unthinking mis-analysis I’ve ever read about any football match. People forget that Chelsea *had* to win that match. It was unlikely they would still win the league, but only victory would keep them in the frame. And yet Mourinho sent out a team that had no intention of even trying to win the game. Jose is a good manager, but not even he can predict that the opposition captain will fall on his arse a few minutes before half-time and present his C-F with a clear run on goal. Without that, we get – in all probability – a turgid 0-0 that sees Chelsea surrender their title without even a whimper. The idea that result had anything to do with tactics or systems or formations from either manager is utter crap.
I have defended BR – ALL the time he has been out manager, he has made poor decisions and great decisions, he has not taken us backwards – he took us a couple of steps forward and gave me my hunger back. He gave me an insight of what we can be capable of again when all goes well.
I support LFC because I love the Club, not a player, not a manager and not the management. If you spend your time being negative, slagging of the manager, not getting behind the players, gasping at SM and the defence every time the ball goes in the box then you are like that annoying cousin at Christmas who bitches, moans and brings everyone into a downer. If your one of them…piss off and give your seat to someone who wants to be there, who wants to get behind our team, who will sing our songs and be a positive effect on the club.
I wish Brendan the best of luck & I would like to thank him for putting everything into trying to make us better, I hope he gets a management role in a team that lets him get some of his life back and gets behind him.
To the next manager, whoever you will be, I will be 100% behind you, I will give you time, I will defend you against all them negative twats because you will be one of OUR family.
Last thing, cracking 4 mini podcasts – well done lads for stringing so many beer induced sentences together – now I know how I sound to my sober friends when I’m sloshed!
I’ll never forget when we played Palace away. I was watching alone. Wife and kid upstairs. We scored three and were getting the ball from the goal, four players running into the net to retrieve the ball and get the game restarted. We were three up.
Think we needed to win 8-0 or so to get level with City’s goal difference. We scored the third. Four lads followed the ball into the net and i jumped for joy. I roared at the top of my voice “they’re going for it”. My wife ran to the top of the stairs. I was at the bottom. Running around the house with excitement.
“What’s wrong?” She asked
“They’re going for it. They’re fucking going it. Balls of fucking steel they have.”
She had no idea but she later said she’d rarely seen any adult that happy and excited. I ran back to the couch to watch.
We all know the game finished three all. I was disappointed but not greatly. My overriding emotion afterwards was pride. I was so proud of Brendans reds. Believing they could overturn an 8 goal deficit over two games. Such confidence. Such Bravado. Balls of steel.
I thought Robbo was taking himself a bit seriously last night. Now I can hear his Sentiments echoing down the coming weeks and months as a warning that No-markery and Snides are on a warning !
Agree with others, this podcast is the best you’ve ever done. Was nearly in absoloute bits listening to this. Robbo and Neil, outstanding points made and love the passion from you both. If only every fan felt the same way!
Changing Expectations As Reds Fly: The Anfield Wrap
Neil Atkinson hosts John Gibbons, Sean Rogers and Ian Salmon. We discuss what constitutes a good season from this point, what Liverpool need to go right on and off the pitch to achieve this success and the ever looming contract situation.
Also in the show Neil chats to Dave Lynch about his substack….
It was time for Rodgers to go… But God how good was that 13/14 season! Rodgers deserves better and a lot more respect from a certain section of the fans. All the best to him.
Well said son!

Yes Robbo!
What Gareth said about some of the fans.

Get in Robbo! “Reset on bellendry”. Fucking amen.
It probably was time to go, but theres no need to be cunts about it.
Thanks for everything Brendan. Good luck with it all mate.
PS – i don’t think Gibbo should be allowed near a mic after that many pints. Have a lie down lad.
Up the Reds.

Yet is perpetuated by Steven Gerrard, sadly.

Well in Robbo,
Felt the same way when reds turned on Rafa.
