LIVERPOOL 1 Someone Else 1 — it’s quickly becoming the bet of the week. We really need to find a way to create more chances — be that through getting more attacking players on the pitch, or finding a greater understanding among those Jurgen Klopp is picking. The latter might take time. In the meantime it would be nice if we looked like we had the ability, or sheer bloody mindedness, to see out a 1-0. Anyway, ratings out of 10.
Simon Mignolet: N/A
Honestly don’t feel like i can rate him until I’ve seen the goal back and decided who I want to scream at about it.
Nathaniel Clyne: 6
A very six out of 10 full-back performance. Needs to offer more going forward in this formation, ideally.
Alberto Moreno: 6
Disappointing in the final third, but he did the best tackle of all time, so it’s swings and roundabouts really.
Martin Skrtel: 6
Thought he dealt with Grazianno Pelle pretty well. He needs to be leading the ‘we are winning this game 1-0 no matter what’ charge, though.
Mamadou Sakho: 6
Was lucky not to be punished for two bad mistakes in the first 20. Bounced back well though.
Lucas Leiva: 9
Was more man-of-the-match than the time a professional footballer turned up to play for our useless Thursday night team.
James Milner: 5
Could write an essay on Milner. Might do. I’d always rather watch an intelligent footballer do lots of sensible things slightly slower than you’d like, than a fast brain-dead footballer doing stupid things quickly. But then he gives away an idiotic free kick on 85 and makes me look like an idiot. Still. Good cross for the goal.
Emre Can: 4
About those brain-dead footballers doing stupid things quickly… I’m glad he tries to inject some urgency into things. I’d rather that didnt involve running with the ball into the Main Stand though.
Philippe Coutinho: 5
He probably wants some lads running in front of him. But I want to see some of his shots go under the cross bar, so it’s one of them innit.
Adam Lallana: 6
Showed willing. Probably wants some runners too. But he managed to get into the Premier League team of the year playing with Rickie Lambert, so surely he can do a bit more with our yard dogs, too.
Divock Origi: 4
Not working out this, is it, mate? If this was date three, you’d be shaking hands and promising you’d stay mates before deleting their number as soon as you got home.
SUBS
Christian Benteke: 7
Headed it right in the goal. Looked easy. Let’s do that more. That other chance though…
Bobby Firmino: 6.5
Good cameo. Wanted the ball. Mad floaty corners though. Start him on Wednesday.
Jordon Ibe: 5
Hates football. Just wants to swerve it and go to college or something.

You can rate Simon Mignolet for rolling the ball out to players who aren’t even looking at him: the div.
Agree with my son, blimey.
I think Emre tried to shag Gibbo’s lady…nobody deserved a 4 out there today. Nobody even deserved a 5.
Go into a gun fight with a butter knife and thats what you get
This Klopp experiment clearly isn’t working. Let’s get shot before the season is a write-off. Sherwood is available.
Moreno and Can are only so frustrating to watch because it’s clear they can become twice the players they currently are. So that could be construed as a positive.
The difference between Benteke and Origi is roughly equivalent to the difference between a 30-course extravaganza at El Bulli and a crisp sandwich.
Firmino needs to start asap. He’s got ideas, vision and feet.
Overall: first half poor, second half very good.
I like Can but recently it’s been more Emre Can Horror Story than Emre Can Beauty.
Pick up ball, run forward into midfield, fall over / lose possession. Rinse hair and repeat.
Yeah, sorry Dicovk mate, but too much of the David N’Gog about you. Great 15 mins at a world cup to remember when you hang the boots up though.
Spot on about Lucas: the calm at the centre of the storm – always in the right place at the right time. If only the rest of the players has the same footballing intelligence.
I think Ibe probably hates Klopp more than the football.
1-0 and I reckon we’d all be hailing a corner turned.
Lots to be excited about.
The shape looks good, and the defense with four at the back looks like a foundation to build on. Bit of luck, a little more cohesion and we’ve got ourselves a football team.
Not surprising we looked leggy towards the end.
Agree with Bradley C. no one deserved a 5 out there. 5+ for heart and effort alone. Okay, maybe Origi, but binned at halftime, the right call obviously, doesn’t let the lad redeem himself.
I’d give them 5s just because of LFC increased aggressiveness (at least before they conceed).
Not a lot to analyse for me. An average game between two average teams who done a lot of average things.
Coutinho is still in awful form and needs benching. Milner is still on £165k per week and putting in performances that would make someone on £16.5k per week blush. Emre is still inconsistent. And Origi is still……Origi.

Can’t help but feel a full pre season with the manager is what everyone needed. Only FSG are to blame for that. Things are going to take time. Looks like it’s between us, Spurs and Chelsea for 4th. Spurs will do a Spurs and Chelsea won’t recover to a great extent, especially when they focus on the UCL post-xmas. It’s up to us not to fall too far behind during this bedding in process then have a rattle at the end of season fixtures. I think it’ll be close all the way to May but we’ll do it.
Agreed. We’ll said.
Lucas growing into the season as he tends to do when he gets an injury free period,
Emre thinks he’s better than he his,
Any chance of giving the obvious pass ten seconds earlier,
I’m not getting the Emre hype,
Firmino & Benteke made a huge difference,
Never wanted a 1-0 win more in my life.
I get that Klopp is playing a formation which plays the players available in their best position but watching England play the xmas tree for 2 years under Venables was frustrating and it’s frustrating again now. 3 attacking players isn’t enough to create quality chances. Hopefully Benteke and Firmino are ready to start games now.
Why doesn’t he like playing football? Bit harsh.
Milner is to blame for the goal 100%. Makes a silly challenge to give away the free kick, and then loses his man Mané when the cross comes in.
A solid 2 for Milner. 1 for showing up and 1 for the assist. Other than that he was extremely average at best, rubbish at worst.
That equalising goal I mean!! Grrrhh. Why can’t we defend an incoming 40 yard ball from the front line of our defence. Why can’t the players who are allegedly best at heading the ball attack the fucking thing instead of grabbing hold of the opposition? Until we change this and get back to playing our own game when defending and not flapping at their players the defence will always be inadequate. We always concede from dead balls (I’m omitting Klopp from this conversation) but why have we not managed to sort this most elementary defensive issue over the last 3 years. This season we’ve not been great but in 3 games were we have been the better side, if we could have held on to a 1 goal lead we would have 20 points. We really aren’t that far off. YNWA
The tackle from Moreno was sensational, love it when a tackle alone gets the crowd going
The pass from Minulet was possibly the most embarrassing thing I’ve ever seen
Someone (Cant remember who, Lallana?) charging across the pitch to block a pass from saints player out for a throw right in front of Klopp, drawing an air punch from KP epitimised the effort at times (although seemed a bit fits and starts)
Firmino looking like he may come good
First half, well boring
First 25 minutes of second half really good at times, with better finishing/final ball could have had 3/4
Once players tired and we’d scored it all felt a bit nervy, turns out rightly so!
Yeah, all due respect to the kid but we may as well be playing with ten with Origi upfront. Benteke made loads of difference in that second half, but this is a team that hasn’t played with a real center forward for more than a few games in a row since May 2014 so hopefully everything’s just that.
We are a club that loves to build up the romanticize players when things go wrong, so I’m expecting the Henderson train to start rumbling out of the station soon.
I’m the first one for it. I’m thinking that Hendo for Emre is not only an instant step up, but also elevates Milner’s game, too.
Speaking of which, anybody catch the Suarez hat trick on his one year anniversary of shattering our dreams?
Can and Moreno are prone to too many individual errors! They need to sharpen up their games pronto! Coutinho- head turned or head down? Either way, he’s nowhere near the player he was last year!!
I can see where you’re coming from with Can’s decision making but 4 seems very harsh. He’s not hiding. Feel sorry for Ibe. Poor fella doesn’t have any confidence. I thought Moreno was really good at doing the normal full back stuff and getting into good positions, and then really rubbish at doing the normal football things like controlling the ball when he got there.
Moreno tried hard, but he did my head in with those wasted opportunities. A Cheltenham Town wing-back wouldve delivered at least ONE of those balls into the correct area with the time he had to pick the pass. And we’d played so well collectively to get him into those areas – I think the first one which he sliced over the top-right-hand angle into row Q involved a fabulous passing move, If that had ended with a decent ball into the most obvious area-of-maximum-chaos-for-defenders, we’d scored, and we’d nicked a win – we’d all be feeling a lot better about that performance.
The result colours everything. Even holding onto the 1-0 means each player gets at least an extra 1 onto the ratings, and the increased effort and intent is properly recognised. This lot aren’t far off, they really aren’t.
Those that need to pull their fingers out of their arses are us, the supporters, and fans at the ground. Light years from who we ought to be as ‘supporters’. Right now we are getting the results our (lack of) genuine support deserves. We all have a part to play. JK’s comments are aimed at us and it would be wise of us to listen: it’ll get better much faster that way.
