NEIL ATKINSON was joined by Paul Cope and Sean Rogers as they look at what Liverpool might do at Old Trafford this weekend.
Remember when players used to focus on what they they were best at in training. Everyone knew their role and they stuck to it. The team almost picked itself from 14 players and the level of analysis went as far as replacing an injured player for the next game?
We used to win leagues then.
Every time you have a player from a title winning squad on they say the same thing.
Picking sides and changing formation for next 5 matches? Mental that!
I’d take £2mill to make the club realise you don’t need a top player in each position. You don’t need to bring in so many new faces every year. You need four 8/10 players and you build the team to suit them. We could have done that in previous two windows. We haven’t done that since 1987.
Cliche alert. “Options if a great problem for a manager to have.” Not all managers!
We should have 9 players nailed into a position by now and 13 to pick from if all fit.
There’s 4 players in the entire squad I can think of who do not pose the questions “What’s his best position?” Or “Should he start?” All of these questions and issues ended with the Stoke away last season.
Do you think the average footballer keeps up with this level of analysis?
After listening to the show and you fellas discussing the possible personnel permutations for the upcoming fixtures and briefing which young prodigies are still available for selection as opposed to those who have been loaned out yet AGAIN!! I have to admit the penny has suddenly dropped with me in so much as the realisation that Rogers is being pig headed and refusing to play these youngster, and I say this reluctantly as a general supporter of giving managers 4/5 years to prove their worth subject to year on year progress being evident. However as I was stood peeling spuds and preparing tonight’s Tea whilst listening to the Tuesday Review, it occurred to me their has been a recurring theme with ex LFC managers becoming pig headed with player selections which ultimately resulted with them being removed from their post. And it needs to be said that it’s almost as if they resented the fans giving their opinions whether they be ex players via the press or by us mere mortals. Otherwise why would the likes of Llori, Markovic or Wisdom to name a few, who I agree would really be a benefit to the squad with these upcoming Cup games when we will need such players and not least that they would really benefit individually from the playing time and consequent experience. Why else would Rogers be pushing these potentially useful players out the door?? Hmmm…. In oethose words the ex managers become imbedded with bitterness and resentment which effects their better judgement and if this is indeed what we are beginning to witness with Rogers then I’m afraid to admit the writing is well and truly written all over the Melwood perimeter wall and begins to explain some of the strange decisions he’s been making lately.
4th in the Swiss league is the same as 11th in league 2!!! Who knocked us out of the champions league last year.. Jesus…
