mint that lads… would love to watch more of the old classic matches from before my time with you lads talking over it, explaining what it felt like to actually be there
love this. i never watch old football, but this was mega. more of the same
Bloody wonderful idea and watch.
I was 14 on this day and was sat in my house having probably played football that morning for Afan Lido U15’s.
Worth watching just for the comments of Barnes’s shorts!
Quality
Great idea. Really interesting to hear the past/present dynamic going on, the expectations you have, given the stories you’ve heard contrasted with those who were there and your idea of what football is like today compared to then. It’s really funny how perturbed Paul is by the the back pass rule and the tackling. Oddly enough it was a season punctuated by great performances, it wasn’t the Rolls Royce of the late 70s/early 80s. Those teams were more about control and possession, the ’87 team was more dynamic and direct.
Stevie Nicol, what a player. Started as a left midfielder when Whelan was injured or out of form, ended a centre back.
Love this
Really enjoyed the contrast between Rob and Paul’s views. Very interesting
Cool idea. Looking forward to watching/listening.
Thanks for this. If you do continue to do it in the future, perhaps include in the description the time at which you all start watching so if you don’t listen all at once it isn’t so painful to resync the audio and video. For others, in this case the ‘video’ should be about 1:36 behind the audio.
Great show lads definitely do more of these
I was at this match in the tiny away section they gave us be caused of the stand being built.
Singing along to the very dodgy “ole ole ole ole we are the champs” which some changed to “ole ole ole ole we hate the mancs”
Both very bad songs but I was a lot younger and sang along!
Excellent idea. would definitely watch more of these. thanks lads
That was great stuff. I’ve seen some of that game before but it’s a real football/social history to watch a game in full from a previous era.
Also, just as a side note, struck me how remarkably how similar we were set up in Kenny’s second spell, when he took over in 2011, with Spearing and Lucas as the 2 in front of a back 4 and 2 nominally wide midfielders (Meireles and Maxi) arriving inside. Not a patch on this team, obviously but Nicol was everywhere.
Brilliant stuff lads.
Great to see being only 18, never really get to watch any old stuff. Never really seen much of Barnes before either just go off everyone saying how superb he was, and off just 45 minutes you can see why.
Nicol was boss too absolutely everywhere, could do with looking along the line though.
great idea. Really enjoyed it. More of the same please
What a boss idea I was same as Gareth 9 years old but growing at that time and my dad telling me how good Barnes, Aldridge and Beardsley were what a team would love to hear more old commentaries from Liverpool games maybe when we beat notts forest at home I think we battered them 5-0 keep up the good work loving all the shows
Really enjoyed this. Barry Venison, my apologies.
Brilliant this lads,
Gutted it wasn’t the full game,
Great observations and contrasts from the lads new to 80’s footie and the overall appreciation of Barnes actually made me see him in a different light,
He kept leaving Mike speechless which says a lot,
Would love if this became a regular feature.
Loved it, just got around to watching it but worth the wait. Would love more of this.
