DURING the longest international break in history, on this week’s podcast we pose the question: “What should the ideal season look like?”
Answering that with Neil Atkinson are James McKenna, Ste Evans and Gareth Roberts. Surprising at times, the four drill down into the rhythms of a season and try to work out a winter break…
Sorry guys, but the qualifying chat was all a bit TalkSport, Andorra, San Marino and Gibraltar are the only genuine weak teams in Europe, letting them play in the main qualifying hurts nobody. For pre-qualifying to be worth it you need to lose 8 teams to get groups of the same size, and that doesn’t reduce the number of matchdays, so then you’re dropping 15 and almost a third of UEFA is playing two competitive games in two years.
They’re overhauling it all for Euro 2020 with the Nations League, and it looks great fun.
Totally agree about 24 teams though, makes the group stage much worse
I wouldn’t mind a winter break but we need to keep the Xmas and New Years fixtures. I have to go home at Xmas and it gives me and the family something to do and talk about. What else are we going to do? Watch Mrs Brown’s Boys?
