A REAL strange game. Where we create more but still look toothless. Where we are part unlucky but mostly clueless. Where things could have been much different, but you still wonder what the plan is. At both ends. Tough month for the manager ahead.
Simon Mignolet 5
Concedes every shot on target but blameless for all. Throws one out straight to them, but I suppose I do that at five-a-side every week. So glass houses and all that.
Nathaniel Clyne 6
Felt he was unlucky for the foul on the first. Elsewhere did ok. Although needs to develop as an attacking threat.
Martin Skrtel 5
Did really well until the moment that means I have to listen to how Martial is the next Thierry Henry for the next month. So he can fuck off.
Dejan Lovren 6
Kept it simple. Which is what you want. Forever.
Joe Gomez 5
Really naive for the pen. If he’s on his toes he cuts out the pass anyway. But carried the ball well.
Lucas Leiva 4
When he wasn’t giving dangerous free kicks away he was passing to them. Grew into it eventually.
James Milner 5
Probably his worst game so far. Needs to lead from the front. But not helped by a confused midfield.
Emre Can 6
Probably our brightest player. Still does things wrong, but was lively at least.
Roberto Firmino 4
When do we start to worry he might be a bit rubbish?
Danny Ings 5
Thankless that deep. Looked much more dangerous when he popped up centre. Who would have thought it? Snatches at shots though.
Christian Benteke 7
Should do better on the header but gets about an extra 4 for the goal. Elsewhere, I’m not sure what we want him to do with what we give him.
SUBS
Jordon Ibe 6
Great shift and shot. Good to see him confident enough to do it.
Divock Origi 5
Some good runs but struggled to influence.
Alberto Moreno 5
Not sure he touched it. Which makes it hard to get any higher.

They were sh*te. All of them, including manager. Unadventurous, confusing, isolated Benteke, slow, technically poor, no fight. Really disappointed in the manner of the defeat. BR your a dead man walking.
Not sure you can score a goal like that if you are technically poor
Gibbo’s match ratings always cheer me up after a bad result!
Firmino : played out of position.
Moreno: Great tracking back for slow central midfielders that can’t run. He doesn’t suck at all. He like markovic will fail as long as we insist on playing him out of position. This is the performance I expect. Play Benteke as a right winger and see how he does. You’ll have the same issue.
Gomez: not a left back.
Entire central midfield simply has no ability to pass, possess the ball, beat a defender.
There’s one goal scorer on this team.
Omitted my Firmino comment. He’s not a winger. Play him central or you shouldn’t have bought him. Him and coutihno should be our central midfield. Neither are wide players.
Benteke always seems offside. First half looked appalling from the bit I saw. Abject misery. At least I wasn’t there. Or sat in a New York bar.
Bit unlucky today I thought. Could have easily been a draw but it’s all about fine margins at this level. Why wasn’t Martial scythed down before he got into the box? At 2-1 I felt like we had a really good chance. I think it’s time to drop Skrtel. I’m sick of him heading it to the opposition. Clearances aren’t clearances when they land at the opponents feet!!! Get Sakho in for fuck sake.
Forgetting the result, scoring more than once wasn’t very likely. This was supposed to be a game between to fierce rivals. I’ve seen pre-season kickabouts at non-league level with more passion.
If this is what Rodgers is bringing to the side in his forth season, I dread to think what it will take before FSG get rid of him. Will we have to drop to sub-Owl drivel before they wake up? Oh wait, we are there already, but they don’t bother coming to games.
#pleasegorodgers
The only unlucky ones were the poor bastards who travelled to watch it. This was a pitiful performance. The first half was not befitting of Livepool FC.
Spot on. I don’t mind losing so much, but losing without a fight at Old Trafford? Unacceptable.
Can us liverpool fans stop making excuses for Benteke please. He’s a slow, poorly positioned Striker. He offer nothing but to head the back into our half and fall over. We spent 32m on a player who struggles to control the ball. Unforgiveable signing from Rodgers and that alone leaves me no trust or confidence in BR
Applause…
For once someone has noticed.I said this before liverpool signed him
A tad unfair that.
Any, and I mean any, striker in the world would struggle with the midfield playing 30 yards away from them.
since losing to villa in the semi-final liverpool have played 11 league games: won 3, drawn 3, lost 5
goals for 8, goals against 18
liverpool have only once scored more than one goal in a game: at home to qpr, 2-1
Generous to Skrtel who has been the one constant in a leaky back four for three seasons. Backs off time & time again, game after game – could have tried to tackle Martial but let him get into the box & then couldn’t tackle. Lovren’s form hides his errors for me.
Absolutely fucking pathetic that today, I’ve tried to defend him in the face of heavy criticism (much of it justified) but I am seriously losing my patience.
Tactically inept, we look like 11 men who’ve never met who’ve just been thrown in together. Firmino out wide is a liability, although he wasn’t directly the cause of any goals today he switches off constantly and tracks back with just a jog. Nobody within 40 yards of Benteke for the entire first half, didn’t half feel sorry for him.
I’ll give this fella until the next international break to finally decide how I feel about him, if we improve drastically, which at this moment in time I cannot see, then I may have a change of heart.
Since the back end of last season we’ve made average sides look like world beaters, caving in to defeat in some unforgivable ways. Even when we win we make hard graft of it. We’re Liverpool Football Club for fucks sake and we’re looking like laughing stocks.
Sorry Brendan but I can’t take any more of this shit, sort it fucking out!!
We were bang shite.
It seems to me lessons still have not been learned from last season. Square pegs in round holes is not a sign of tactical genius it smacks of desperation and after the money that has been spent there has to be some semblance of tactics or a plan. Our midfield is a clueless joke there is no guile or aggression there was no one prepared to leave the odd foot in and let’s face it we have enough odd footed players. Spending all that money on bent eke and then giving him zero support, stupid at best. Sadly I have run out of patience with Brenda the job is too big for him, if have often said to my friends that this is the biggest job in European football the man who takes lfc back to the top is guaranteed legendary status it’s just finding someone with the bollix to do it.
What was really hard for me was having my (American) missus point out all the obvious bleeding blunders tactically Brendan made, she is one of those awful optimists who say things like “what kind of fan are you?” when I am mumbling incoherently at the telly. “Why is that poor man having to stand so far away from his teammates?” Pointing out Benteke’s fruitless task up front. You get the gist, needless to say I am in the doghouse. Thanks John G, for the gallows humour, I am off to mow the lawn or paint something, maybe she will be talking to me by Thursday. Hopefully my marriage can withstand the strain.
A few more bad results and he’s gone. You can just see the negitive headlines all over the place already, after the westham game you could sense it, just waiting on a bad result to lay into him and his tactics. They should of done it in the summer. We can’t rebuild every single season, I guess we will have to do it all again come next season. I think this is going to be a long one.
Losing is not good but it’s okay if you see a performance or definate plan. I see neither and it’s been like that for a good while. Too long.
What really annoys me is he they have messed up my motd2 viewing for a second time already this season. I’m in Brazil, utter crap on tv and the one program I look forward to is ruined again.
Thanks Brendan & team.
100% agree with the comments you made under the Skrtel rating. Made me laugh so that’s something! Also Firmino might be shit
I texted my mate just after half-time, that We look like strangers, and the team display was poor (that’s me being polite). But the point is that is caused either by some players not giving a damn, and/or players not knowing what is required of them. Either way, to me, that ultimately damns the Manager, the buck-stops and all that. Sorry but I would be being dishonest if I did not say, Brendan thanks but it is you and not me and see ya lad!
Hard to believe that our side will likely be unrecognizable in the next game or two. Coutinho back, Henderson back, Sturridge back, Sakho back (add a “please god” after all of them).
Honestly, it is the thought of returning to the diamond with this lot that has sustained me through this dark, dark period that sees us 3 points off 2nd place.
I hope the 6 goals conceded is enough to convince Rodgers to bring Sakho back, though. I try to walk on the sunny side of the street, but the manager moves in mysterious ways.
But even after a listless performance following a truly pathetic one, I don’t think it is impossible to get a bit cheered up thinking about an attacking trio with 134 goals in the past 3 seasons (especially when – or unless – you consider the injury records during that time).
Enough with the 134 goals already. Please.
Rodgers has leaked goals every since he joined the club. This manager’s mantra was death by football via possession. In his forth season, we’ve still to see it. He got lucky with one season (still leaking goals like a relegation side), but had an outstanding group of players that would punish a careless side on the break. He has nothing now, despite spending more than any Liverpool manager in the history of the club in the least time.
FSG aren’t bothered, the massive TV revenue boosts their equity value. As long as the side isn’t looking like dropping out of the division, expect them to do nothing. They are very happy, they are getting far more money than they expected.
This is nonsense mate. FSG are looking to maximise our value before selling us. For that to happen we need to be in the champions league consistently to get a slice of that incredible TV money. The reason they’ve stuck with Rodgers is two fold: it would have cost £9m to have sacked him in the summer and he is their guy – they want to be proven right so have given him everything he wanted in order for him to succeed. He just isn’t good enough.
Only £9m? That’s about how much less most of our signings are worth after Brendan has ‘educated’ them.
Can was shite mate
Your rating s are baseless… You are not even taking into account players being deployed out of position , ridiculous tactics and poor game management. Have some substance to ratings seriously… Crap they all were but at least go into some detail as to why
Hear, hear!
In fact, what is the point of these player ratings, especially after a poor result?
What they are is embarrassing. Almost as unreliable and misleading as “The Pink”.
You don’t like them, other people do. Given that you know what they are, why read them if they’re not for you?
Exactly! It’s a light-hearted look at the players and their influence on the game. If you’re that bothered about precise player ratings, I’d seriously give your head a wobble – who’s bothered, seriously? Alternatively, watch Monday night football and listen to Carragher and Neville if you want a proper insight into perceived ratings.
Agree on the match ratings John, except Firmino.
Firmino thinks faster and is looking for quicker play than anyone else and it’s not there. Have a feeling he’d flourish in the 2nd place Liverpool side and all its incessant frontline movement. If we’d had him 2 seasons ago we’d have been 12 clear in May.
Other than the incredible goal, once again Benteke just stands there most the time, when he’s not he’s offside. In other words his ‘off the ball movement’ in FM 16 should be about 11.
Came out of my seat at him ruining Can’s break away and then hiding behind a defender at another break away chance.
They scored one goal from open play, that was a Utd team that we should be beating 3-1.
This is one former Rodgers man rapidly losing his religion.
Gibbo, how about including a rating for Rodgers too – taking into consideration his choice of line up, tactical set up, subs, the amount of times he does that thing where he uses three fingers to make a triangle etc.
He’d get a generous 3 from me for this debacle.
Firmino wasn’t great but think it’s far too soon to question if he is actually any good after a total of about 200 minutes during which he’s yet to actually play in his best position.
