IN the last ‘Tuesday Review’ before the start of the season, Neil, Sean and Paul look at what Liverpool’s starting XI might look like come the big kick off, and why the centre-half pairing might not be to everyone’s taste?

Sorry, still on the Lucas thing, but name me a game where he plays and Gerrard didn’t and he looked out of place or leggy. Pretty sure he will be fine, especially by the time Arsenal rolls around in three weeks.
Maybe Rodgers has even told him that he isn’t going to feature in the first two games and his preseason has been tailored around getting ready for Arsenal.
At least Sean Rogers had the good sense to warn his interlocutors and the audience that he may be the functional equivalent of “off his head” with “6 Garys” . . .
And Paul Cope had a few moments of clarity and balance.
Neil . . . what can I say, I think the ‘ideas’ of multi-functionality and ‘back to the future’ just got to him and his usual ability to, well, submit his ideas to a plausibility check failed.
I listened to the podcast twice within three hours. The first one was poolside and I actually had to stop and take breaks. The second time I first listened to the Well Read one and then went back to the Tuesday Review to ‘give it another chance’.
It happens to be my favorite podcast, Tuesday Review, and I’ve only been this frustrated with an installment of it once before.
I have no idea what got into the lads (especially Sean Rogers) but that was a podcast to forget.
If we go with a Henderson, Milner, Coutinho central midfield trio for the games in August, we are going to suffer.
I think Paul Cope’s idea of watching the Swindon match over again is an excellent recommendation for all three of the lads.
Particularly if it’s ahead of Skrtel and (gasp) Lovren…
Let’s hope the new backroom staff challenge Brendan over Lovren. That was the idea wasn’t it?
Sorry, (gasp) Lovren.
Yes, get the name right. For the time being, Lovren should be preceded by (gasp) or even (gulp). I learned that rule by reading hundreds of Yankee comics… DC, principally.
Our success over the years during the 70′ & 80’s when compared with the current day was aided by stoic defending when full backs and right mids generally hunted in packs when going forward but especially whilst defending, providing cover for the central defenders and rarely leaving them exposed to incoming crosses down either flank. On the Right side: Lawler or Smith coupled with Hall or Case in the 70’s. Then in the 80’s we had Neale or Nichol with Lee or Johnson. On the Left Side: Lindsay or Alan Kennedy coupled with Callaghan or Ray Kennedy then in the 80’s we had A. Kennedy or Nichol with Whelan or Barnes. Make no mistake any of those combos made a key contribution to the success of their respective teams. More poignant to the topical debate was the central midfield pairings of that era which compounded the spinal strength of the team with combos such as Souness McDermot and then Whelan with McMahon provided the central cover which allowed their respective teams to dominate the field and when we can once again duplicate both synopses then success will surely follow as its my view this current squad will not be far off.
Just listened to first fifteen min utter nonsense lucas was excellent against Swindon he was always going to tire after 60mins if it wasn’t a friendly he would have fouled him. As for Helsinki game we may as well been playing there under 12s in that second half if we play hrn/mil as 2 were fucked you heads gone lads there no point having mobility if you don’t have awareness to be in right position to win the ball it all about winning the ball in the transition . when you English going to learn its not negative to have a holder , I expect this nonsense from Niel really disappointed in Sean and Paul, powerful midfield 3 wins league and makes hen /mil more important why would you not want that !!
