The Australian Reds like a pint. They love a pint. And they love the game. So we felt they were firmly on message enough to nail a show. Featuring John Mellors, Nick Croser, Danny McGorry, Grant Furner and hosted by Andy Gargett. Liverpool on tour, a great time had by all and Craig Johnston to be discussed.
This is how the NSW Reds do their business when the Reds are on tour: https://lfcnsw.com/membership/
I’m an Irish Red and I’ve raised my 3 boys from birth as Irish born scousers!! Listening to you guys talking about getting the kids to support Liverpool got me thinking of the other day when a friend of my eldest (9yo) who has always supported us but arrived up at football training in a Man City training top. I had a quiet word in his ear about his selection hopes for the coming season and he says “Well coach, I haven’t fully decided to support City yet. I think I’m gonna change my mind”!!
Preseason tours are great to ensure support, but don’t underestimate the influence of a lunatic youth football coach!!
I appreciate the continued effort from the site to offer more diverse perspectives. keep it coming. the guys in australia did a good job, naturals. they surely must have a podcast of their own?
Great stuff fellas. As a Scouser living in Perth for the last 3 years, I am heart warmed and so proud of the level of fanatical support that youz provide down under and the 2 Australian Tours is testimony that your level of support knows no bounds and heres hoping that the Club take on board your positively critical comments and get involved and walk the walk so to speak in order to embrace you into the LFC family. However I feel compelled to add to this debate just to confirm that over the years as a fan and I’ve been going the game since the age of 10 and I’m now almost 50, LFC, the club has always been pretty ruthless, removed and to be honest pretty cynical to the local fans, so please fellas don’t think they treat you guys any differently because of your location. Because if the Club officials down the years had indeed believed in itself and thought as BIG as its glorious Managers & Teams, as so passionately embraced in one of Shank’s greatest speeches shortly after arriving at the club because he felt the passion and instantly recognised the potential that if properly harnessed may as he prophecised; “I want to build this Club into the biggest club in the world, a Bastion of strength and invincibility where we can just smash all opposition into surrender” Then without any shadow of a doubt our club should truly be one of the global football super powers along with Real Madrid & Barcelona, even more so than we are currently and Anfield should be a 70,000 capacity Stadium and LFC would have had at least 10 Premier League Titles and 2/3 more ECL Cups to our credit. However that about sums up LFC as a small thinking commercial enterprise for the last 50 years. With that said FSG a taking that amateurish approach and cranking up the commercialism to required levels which will enable the club to compete at the highest level which is great.
As for the clubs lack of PR presence. It has to be said and it cause me a lot of pain to do so but Man Utd have stolen our thunder and we have just watched and allowed them do become England’s largest Club. YNWA
Excellent that. Intriguing insight.
Thanks for the kind words gunpey. We don’t do our own podcast but a few of us have been on a podcast before, Im glad you enjoyed.
John – I totally agree with your assessment. My/our critique of the club not catering for fans was not bc we’re based in Australia. I think its bc the club doesn’t really value the fans, in Liverpool and elsewhere. They pay lip service and use it to further the Liverpool “brand”. Its a shame as investing in the fan base could be a unique point of difference for the club.
Hey guys – this was a great listen and it’d be great of there were a couple more of these specials from you guys potted throughout the course of the season. Being an Irish red one of the disappointing things about TAW podcasts is getting an insight into the distance between club and fans. Obviously the local reds have been fighting these battles for years over access, tickets, representation, harnessing the supporter base that gets used for commercial purposes by the club when it suits them… The mid-section of the podcast was so disappointing to hear, not least because it say in such sharp contrast to the obvious dedication and support you all brought to the tour. Appreciated the insight, enjoyed the humour and the passion.. would not mind at all hearing the odd TAW player special from the Aussies.. cheers lads..
