The sad thing about that cardiff goal was for all of Suarez and Sturridge individual brilliance that season both of them were right there on the 6 year line to tap in(as they did on a regular basis), this season the only time we scored a goal anything like that was Balotelli vs Spurs but even if we had worked those positions on a regular basis we didn’t have someone up front taking up the necessary position. This is mental as for a striker this is the most bread and butter goal you can score along with standing beside the keeper during corners knowing it will drop to you 2 or 3 times a season and for lads like Borini Lambert and Ballotelli who didn;t have things falling thier way you would imagine going back to basics and consistently taking up positions to score tap ins when they eventually fall would have been the only place to start for building confidence but aside from the Mario vs Spurs it never happened…..sigh
All I can hear in my head is all the people that have actually watched Firmino play saying, “he has to be played centrally…otherwise his talents are wasted”. My fear and suspicion is that we’ll stick him out on a wing…and then he’ll start looking a bit confused, and we’ll all be wondering what went wrong. Having said that, I’m still excited about the Firmino signing. I can’t really get behind the idea of Benteke…but trying to stay positive.
No Emre Can next season then, lads?
I can see the sense of a midfield that is in perpetual motion. A narrow diamond could work with Can at the base, Milner and Henderson tucking in and Phil at the tip. You could slot Lallana in to any of those roles depending on the opposition. You’re all right about one thing, though, Coutinho is wasted in a front three and/or on the flanks, he doesn’t have the goals in him and his best work is from deep. I counter-intuitively suggested he could play at the base of a diamond last season. I stand by that, he has the mobility and the passing range to do real damage from deep.
Love the Gutter shows. Hate it when Neil tries to boss it with his opinions that he tries to commit as fact. Really, Neil? Do you not get enough airtime elsewhere?. Also, Neil, you sounded like a drunken rambler. Embarrassing. Would love to see Gareth’s face when you’re talking the usual shit.
