Well done boy’s..I’ll sleep a little easier now.
Feels like Suarez deal, where the player is at a club in a good lge scoring goals and is a real player who suits our style and this will make him a world star. Rightly excited knowing he can dove tail with Coutinho. We love goals and they will both be unstoppable together. Sure Milner will be thrilled with the signing too. Super positive once it’s done & dusted.
Excellent lads, well done. I spent half an hour watching all the video’s around then saw the link for this. I was made up. It’s a really brilliant thing to do.
This was the kind of signing I needed. Let’s say we do go out and get a good striker, which most people would agree we probably will, then things are starting to look good. Sturridge might be injury free after he returns. In some ways I’d written him off in my mind but last season was a freak season for him I’d guess. I watched Firmino and Coutinho link up in the highlights earlier. It just makes sense. Let’s say we get one of the South American strikers we’re linked to. The squad would feel strong. Ings would suddenly feel like an exciting 3rd choice, I love how keen he seems. Origi also an unknown quantity as a Liverpool player but might have a similar effect as say, Ibe, as in excitingly raw. We still need to buy the Gomez’s of this world even if we need proven players too. There’s Lallana and Markovic too. Henderson and Milner, possibly even Balotelli. Bogdan is an upgrade on Jones. Mignolet is well good enough providing he doesn’t lose the plot. Sakho and Skrtel and a lot of talk about Ilori returning. Maybe Clyne. Can and Alllen and maybe Lucas. Apologies, not making much sense here just naming players. Just thinking aloud that the squad could seem strong.
We’ve all criticised the club but they’re getting their business done early. The window hasn’t even opened and we’re only 2 players away from feeling fairly complete. Benteke felt like we were content getting the best of the rest yet again. No thought and no ambition. Although no one actually knows Firmino it feels exciting. As John said, he plays up front for Brazil. Surely, they’ll be a good song for him too at some point. He’s got all the ingredients especially his name ending in an o. Brazilian too. My first thoughts are possibly a Santana song.
He may turn out to be average. Our fans will definitely say ‘we paid too much’ like it matters to us as fans. Twitter’s full of Ayre will mess it up comments tonight. Whatever happens I’m made up about this. It’s really restored my faith in the club. I saw on Twitter tonight that his wages are insignificant. His fee certainly isn’t. We’ve got in and got out with our man. No fuckin about playing games and acting hard that we won’t be taken for a ride then coming away red faced. A striker and a right back and we’ll be good to go. I strongly suspect they’ll be a league team and a cup team. I think we could put 2 good teams out. To sum up this stoned waffling, whatever happens this is a good thing for me and respect to the club. I feel thoroughly buoyed by this news.
Brilliant thats exactly what we needed, give everyone around the team a lift, if we got a top class finisher now like Bacca or Lacazette and a right back we will be in decent shape come August. Signing Lacazette seemed like a pipe dream but now that we have made a real statement of intent it will go a huge way to attracting a top class striker.
I don’t want to be Cassandra booked as the frowning, pursed-lipped stripogram to the party, but the guy has scored 35 goals in 140 games for Hoffenheim.
Most of those goals were of the ‘fox in the box’ type, as well. If we get him, I wish him (and us) all the very best, but let’s keep things in perspective.
He hasn’t scored more than 8 league goals in the 7 seasons he has played, other than in 2013-2014 when he scored 16. Apart from 2010-2011, he played in pretty much every game.
It’s another gamble, maybe one that will pay off, but a gamble none the less and one that we need to stump up an initial 25m for.
He might well represent the limits of who we can attract, given our current situation, but it would seem to be somewhat optimistic to believe that Firmino can come in and tear up defences in the strongest league he has played in so far.
He looks to be a reasonably good poacher, but we are a team that failed to create many chances for that sort of player, last season (although it would be fair to argue that our forwards were conspicuous by their absence, in front of goal in 2014-2015).
I genuinely hope the lad thrives at Liverpool, but the way we go about transfers leaves me scratching my head.
We constantly look for value and now find ourselves desperately needing goals. Firmino is expensive and doesn’t seem to score enough of them.
What am I failing to appreciate here?
Look mate, it doesn’t matter if he’s any good or not. We may pay nearly £30m for him. I read his wages would make him the second highest earner. We beat Utd to him. Who cares if he’s any good. All the things I thought we wouldn’t / couldn’t do, we’ve done. It looks like someone at the club actually cares and that has to be from Boston. Maybe they’ve re-evaluated their approach. It could be stage two after the consolidation. Ok, it’s the Sterling money but we didn’t do it with the Suarez money. For me, I’m excited because I think we’ll get one of the other South Americans we’re linked with. All I wanted was a South American. Again, I don’t care what they turn out like. I just wanted to take the gamble rather than get Benteke. It felt wrong, stagnant, average, predictable and a bit wank. We’ve been asking for some ambition and this is a small sign. Rejoice in it.
Robin, we beat United to Harry Kewell. I couldn’t care less about United, other than wishing our two clubs stopped acting like a pair of octogenarians in a bar that still can’t talk to one another because we used to be the two hardest lads on the estate in our teens.
I very much doubt that FSG’s decision is based on a newly-discovered esprit de cours with the fans. Firmino looks like just the sort of player that could be sold at a big profit in a couple of years, if he is a success. I know that a lot of the most-exhilarating players come from latin America, but they aren’t all good or even exciting. There are a hell of a lot of professional players from that part of the world and they all have names that sound more exotic than, say, Alan Shearer.
Shearer… what a thin-blooded fence-kreosoting , chicken and beans-eating, crap-BBC-Pundit-in-waiting he always was, but I would take the 25-30 workmanlike goals a season right now, even if they all came without a swivel of snake-like hips.
Then again, we belatedly tried to buy his reincarnation, in the shape of Andy Carroll and I can’t believe that this deal will work out as bad as that one.
Let’s just cross our fingers.
Don’t, please don’t. I’ve had enough pessimism since the end of the season.
I see the forgotten man, Lucas Leiva, as the linchpin with Coutino and Firmino. I am a Lucas fan (not simply because of his football but also his character), but I see the emergence of Coutino as a guaranteed talent as being due to Lucas’ influence and mentoring.
At last our tecruitment is beginning to make sense.
Seems you don’t know much about him. Firstly he’s 23 so he’s not going to be banging in 20 a season from when he was 19/30 was he? But in his last two seasons with goals and assists he’s contributed to 44 goals in 66 league games. Considering his team scored 111 goals in that time he’s involved in about 40 percent of their goals. This guy has got PHENOMENAL attacking instincts. He also is a regular for Brazil nowadays, and only Messi and Hazard have completed more successful dribbles than him over the last two seasons. And only just as well (He’s miles ahead of Sterling, Robben, Ribery). He’s playing for an average team in Hoffenheim that’s finished 8th and 9th in the last two seasons.
This signing is DREAM and our best since Suarez. Missing out on Depay and some underwhelming business so far has led to a lot of pessimism around Liverpool but this kind of signing washes it all away. If we get Kovacic and Bacca as well we can challenge for the title. I don’t really care about the top 4 I want the league, and Firmino raises us to another level.
Our squad last season was not a 62 point squad. It should have finished on 72 regardless of Sturridge. Add Sturidge, Bacca, Kovacic, and Firmino plus Clyne and we can win the league. Especially considering our start we can really position ourselves beautifully with some big wins (starting with a morale boosting, belief surging win at Stoke).
We also need Sakho fit for most of the season which is a big thing, and Emre Can to play in midfield as I think he might be out best midfielder already tbh. He’s a beast and is killing it at the under 21s.
The best thing about Firmino is he’s a player we can ENJOY watching. Liverpool were dire for most of last season and the pressure made it hard to watch, seeing as we crumbled under it. But with quality signings like this LFC can get the feel good factor back again and we can all start enjoying it again.
With Firmino, Coutinho, Studge, Can, Sakho, and hopefully Bacca and Kovacic it will be POETRY IN MOTION once again my friends!
Also I know English media haven’t reported Kovacic but they’re clearly out of the loop this season. They all thought Firmino was off to United and it was Globo who broke it. Respected Italian journos has talked about Kovacic so it may well happen. Or another top midfielder like that guy from Madrid.
#19!
Well that gives me a bit more hope, thanks for pointing all of that out. The videos I watched of him and the goal-scoring stats clearly don’t tell the whole story.
I’ll be very happy (and amazed) if we finish 4th. I expect all of the established top-4 teams to strengthen more than we do.
There aren’t many young players that have moved to the Premier League from a weak team in a weaker league and have turned their new club into potential champions in their first season.
I don’t see Chelsea and City dropping out of the top-4, Arsenal have finally signed a world-class keeper and Manchester United are going to out-spend us again.
Let’s hope this is at least a first step towards making us a decent side to watch again, though.
I really hope this comes off. We could do with an injection of positivity. Also hope this guy is pacy. Somewhat concerned that other options – coutinho and lallana – for the attacking positions are lacking in pace.
Hopefully now we can focus on getting a proven striker
TAW absolutely MUST talk to James Thorogood, of the Budesliga podcast Talking Fussball about this. He’s a Liverpool fan and has championed Firmino for a couple of years at least:

Just an idea. Thanks.
I see the BBC call him Barbosa de Oliveira on their team sheets. I think for our song we should stick to Firmino.
This is Great Wonderful information.. great Thanks..
Many have been saying we need 2/3 quality players to go straight into the first XI to really kick us on. Milner is understated quality and hopefully Fermino is that top quality up front we’ve been yearning for. Add a quality striker (Bacca?) and maybe Clyne and we start to look really good for next season.
I’m sure the signing has excited our players and hopefully makes it easier to sign the next quality player.
Love that this was done with little fuss and we flew over to Chile to get it over the line. Maybe we are learning from past mistakes.
Where is Brendon Rogers when we are making these signing
He could be the difference between convincing a player to join us or not
Surly seeing the manager face to face would prove the club are interested in you
Famino would not have a clue who Ian aire is
Liverpool were Kak(shit) last season however there was a statement made by Big Sam which pissed me off. He said Liverpool would be a mid-table team without The Bitey one, he was so right. Last season proved just that, however there is another thing it proved… Liverpool are just one or two quality players away from winning the league. I have faith in our recruitment team, look at all the players they missed out on Mkhitaryan, Salah, Costa, Sanchez. This shows that we are identifying the right players, we just couldn’t close the deals and now that we have learned from the past mistakes the future looks bright. Here in South Africa we are fortunate that we are able to watch The Bundesliga and that Firmino boy is a real talent, feisty and he never gives up. If you know Tevez and Suarez then Firmino is their younger and more skillful version of them. I haven’t been this excited since the Suarez signing. Fuck top 4, we must go for the league.
