ROB GUTMANN was joined by Paul Cope and Gareth Roberts on this week’s ‘Unwrapped’ as they gaze in to the Crystal Ball of Brendan Rodgers and Raheem Sterlings future.
Is Sterling past the point of staying at Liverpool?
Will Rodgers even be in a position to redeem himself next season?
Gutmann in the gutter…. Sorry Rob couldn’t help it, probably my favourite TAW Player show though!
I don’t think Sterling is looking at Glen Johnson or Steven Gerrard and begrudging their wages. I think Raheem is intelligent enough to understand they are senior players.
I think Sterling is looking at next season and thinking who do I turn to when we need some inspiration? Who are the players I look up to? Who are the players I look to for to win this game? Not Gerrard. I’ll do what Gerrard tells me. I know my place under Gerrard. Next season I’ve got to play under a captain who isn’t as good as me, who has no right to be my captain and is not the reason I came to Liverpool in the first place. I’m 21 years old and now my captain and an entire stadium is looking to me to win every fucking game and when I don’t, they hate me.
Bye bye, Raheem!
What I think will happen is that FSG will sack Rodgers, then hope the new manager can convince Sterling to stay. If he can’t then he’ll be sold to fund the new manager’s transfers
Rodgers won’t walk out on the biggest and most high profile job of his lifetime – He was never really qualified, but I don’t think FSG dare take the risk of bringing someone else in as they believe we’ll lose the ‘system’ and ‘philosophy’ built and implemented over last three years. When we all know that’s bollocks and a top manager’s only system and philosophy is winning and knowing how. Does Rodgers know how?
That’s what is called, in courts, a “leading question”. A question that invites the right answer. You know the answer, and so do I. A diminishing number of supporters doesn’t agree. They believe all managers deserve 5 year plans. Did Roy Hodgson deserve a 5 year plan?
Sensational show gents and worth the £5 a month alone. The points on Sterling are absolutely spot on. A lot of fans just don’t realise the position we are in right now and the fact that he isn’t a local lad. What’s attractive about us right now?? I can’t think of much and with the clubs supposedly interested in him, how anyone can be surprised at Raheem’s head being turned is ridiculous!
In terms of the manager i’m with Rob in wanting Klopp but my main reason for wanting him is he is just a far more attractive manager and he has actually won things. As you guys have correctly pointed out, we can no longer say to players we want ‘Come play with Steven Gerrard’ or ‘Come play with Luis Suarez’. However being able to say ‘Come play under Juergen Klopp’ is in my opinion a much better selling point then ‘Come play under Brendan Rodgers’.
I’m very very worried about the path this club is on and to be honest it looks like we’re now set for a good few years of being in a constant fight for fifth. Oh joy!!
Is Ryan Bertrand really the best left back in the Premier League? Really?
Options wise, as we’ve been told, that he has the final signoff then he has to accept the brickbats regards squad options.
Agree with all the Sterling stuff however, the club and fans are doing ourselves no favours, I don’t understand what the end game is when he’s been slagged by all and sundry. Why would he now want to stay?.
As for the betting at the end, I don’t think he goes and I certainly don’t see him walking, it’s too big a job for Rodgers( who is most definitely NOT the 2nd best manager in Europe……tho I liked the positivity!! )
I would be very cautious when waxing lyrical about Southampton defenders with Lovren being an example. They have two holding mids in front of them shielding, it helps a lot
I’m not convinced Bertrand would be any good for us if we have him here, the way we set up
I think if everyone is honest last summer when they heard we were after Bertrand or Moreno, most people wanted the youngster that was feted as Jordi Alba’s replacement in the national squad rather than the bloke that couldnt get a game at Chelsea, so to make out now that we got the crap one is a bit disingenous to me
Spot on. If he really wanted Williams ahead of Sakho, then i’m not sure i want him spending anymore money as our manager. Go buy average players for another side.
Yea, while the transfer committee has been a failure I don’t exactly trust Rodgers either to pick a player. Borini, Allen, Lambert, Lovren immediately spring to mind and his cold shouldering of Sakho for so long too doesn’t fill me with confidence in his ability to spot a player either.
Bertrand would look nowhere near as good if he plays for us
Would imagine the whinging about him being shit going forward and all that if he’s here
Seriously, who gives a fuck about this. These people live in a different world to us, it’s just a minor pissing contest between a business, an agent trying to build a business, and a player operating through his own business. Sterling isn’t Suarez, not even close, probably never will be. Cash in, kick out, or play if his performances justify it.
You lot need to get a fucking life and stop wanking off on twatter, RAWK and other cesspits of humanity and focus on enjoying the game, even the turgid dross Rodgers has us player.
Great show lads, and Mr Gutmann you made my day with your Suarez leaving pitch, pissing myself at that. An enjoyable distraction from the mainstream media coverage.
