THIS is a special Anfield Wrap podcast on the Heysel stadium disaster.
Neil Atkinson and Gareth Roberts interviewed Italian author Francesco Caremani, senior lecturer at Manchester University and author Geoff Pearson, football editor of the Times Tony Evans, journalist Peter Marshall and football journalist Serafino Ingardia before having a panel discussion with John Mackin, Peter Hooton, Chris Rowland and Mike Nevin about May 29, 1985.
Just want to say what an amazing and respectful Podcast, keep up the amazing work. YNWA
Magnificent piece of work, and very important too. Hard to listen to parts when you think of the shock and the horror and the guilt and the blame. The names being read out, too. Superb work all round.
Important work, thank you for putting this together.
1985 – Everthing seemed to spiral out of control. Politics, unemployment, policing, safety at matches and then Heysel. The podcast you have produced captures that year well, yet it brings back so many bad memories for me and thousands of others when Liverpools momentum went off track. Despite a future successes and another tragedy, LFC changed forever on 29th May 1985.
Thank you so much for that, very inciteful. I was 22 at the time and watched on TV like so many other LFC fans. I was heart broken as well as ashamed and horrified. You have shed some light on it and I think like many others, including Liverpool Football Club, I have not looked into this like I have Hillsborough (hiding from the truth) and I never realised that 14 Liverpool fans went to jail over it.
Very well put together article and pod cast
Thank you again
