FRUSTRATING game. But it’s another game of football to look forward to so Phil Blundell will be pleased. We should win there…hopefully. Anyway. Some letters followed by a number you probably won’t agree with.
SIMON MIGNOLET: 6
Was fine. Could have been quicker to distribute the ball at times but caught what he needed to. Saved the one he had to.
GLEN JOHNSON: 5.5
He’s a funny lad, isn’t he? Had some good periods and helped us keep momentum from the back when we had a bit. But he still makes decisions that leave you scratching your head, and sometimes he just plain old passes to them. Interesting that he attacked well when in a right back position. Alright it wasn’t that interesting.
MARTIN SKRTEL: N/A
Went off too early to rate. Apparently ok, which is nice. Would have ruined Sunday night if he was dead.
DEJAN LOVREN: 2
LAZAR MARKOVIC: 4.5
Just needs to do a bit more of something. Not really bothered what. Running at them dead fast might be worth a go.
EMRE CAN: 5.5
Didn’t really seem to know how to contribute in an attacking sense. The one time he did stretch his legs he held on too long. It’s funny. Cool and calm at the back, but looks a bit lethargic in midfield.
JORDAN HENDERSON: 6.5
Probably just about man of the match but you still wanted more from him. Probably the least energetic he has been for a while, but passed it better than anyone.
RAHEEM STERLING: 6
Gave away a shocker in the first half but was generally bright. We could probably do with him closer to their goal, but they were petrified of him when he got in the box.
ADAM LALLANA: 5
When the opposition are deep and well organised it should be your £25 million attacking midfielder who can make something happen, but Lallana never looks likely. His whole Liverpool career was summed up towards the end when he takes down a high ball brilliantly, beats a man on the inside and then turns back into him. The divvy.
DANIEL STURRIDGE: 5
Handsome Dan is still struggling to get going. Not sure what we can do now. Apart from wait. We’ll just wait.
PHILIPPE COUTINHO: 5
Probably his worst game for ages. It’s allowed though. Others have to step up.
SUBS:
KOLO TOURE: 6
Did some good stuff. Did some bad stuff. That fella he had to mark was mad though. So probably ended up just about up.
MARIO BALOTELLI: 5
Loses loads of points for that shot. Did ok apart from that without really looking like scoring. Booed on by the Blackburn fans. I don’t know, ask them.

Sakho for Lovren’s a good call (obviously) but a big one too. Let’s hope Brendan does the right thing. Lallana’s a decent player but he turns back because he hasn’t got the pace to beat a defender. There’s an assumption that he’s being over-elaborate. I don’t think it’s that complicated. For those of you who still ask what Joe Allen does: you got you answer tonight. He and Lucas both move the ball quickly. Very slow tonight.
Lallana is a expensive Yossi..nothing wrong with that just pointless to expect him to be more than that just because of his price.
Needs to be hooked earlier when it is clear that he isn’t going to influence the game,
PS the captcha is annoying.
Agree. On all counts.
It might be annoying. But without it the site got spammed to death with crap. So swings and roundabouts, la.
Thought Sterling was the best of a bad bunch personally.
Markovic had so much of the ball but bottled it a bit. He’s regressing back to his early season displays after showing some promise.
I like the idea of playing “Where’s Lovry?” Probably better to put a time element in there (first person to spot him correctly after a transition in play is the winner) and incentivise it, of course, with some prizes. Signed Dejan gear, etc.
‘That fella he had to mark was mad though.’ Wasn’t he just. Biggest handful in the air going in the first half then couldn’t trap a bag of cement in the second. He’ll end up being shit for West Brom/West Ham/Stoke/whoever at some point.
this makes more sense than the fella who grades for the other lot. Hard to figure out where it went wrong. Needed Allen, now that is a phrase I never thought I’d use.
Last time I used that phrase was after a botched attempt at constructing some Ikea furniture.
Mate, just spat tea on the dog!
Love the fact Skrtel has 40 votes for MOTM
Rudy Gestede….I actually thought he was superb first half, he was into everything both ends of the pitch, beat everyone in the air in our box too, we haven’t anyone who can do that.
I was wondering if he’d be affected by getting Skrtel stretchered off (accidentally, of course) but he was completely unfazed.
They defended much deeper the second half, so he didn’t get the ball as much, but I thought we ought to buy him.
Just checked his stats, very impressive, 27 starts, 15 goals. French U17 International too.
He looks a steal at the £5M asking price
oh, also meant to say… that save by Mignolet, from Baptiste was absolutely unbelievable. Watching on telly, it was in the net.
Even with Lallana right in spot he wanted to be in, he somehow managed to palm it over. A 6 John? It was a world class save.
We’d be concentrating on the league now, without that effort.
“Would have ruined Sunday night if he was dead”.
Oh dear. I suppose when you wrote that you thought it was ‘dead funny’. You were wrong.
Can’t disagree with any of that John.
Thought it strange that Ian Ladyman in today’s Mail highlighted Emre Can’s midfield performance (in such a positive way)
