LOL Gibbo got me with the $$ bit
Hope Gerrard does an all time great dive like he did vs Sheff U in ’06, personally.
Good to hear the big up for Lucas, really good to hear, I’ve been boring every one for months about this, but he is what we’ve needed for ages but I’m suspecting BR wants him out for some reason. I hope i’m wrong, as whilst he isnt the fastest he is still the best reader of play that we have. Let’s hope we see him in the side vs Palace.
ps – very enjoyable pod btw – good job
As always, enjoyed the podcast but thought it was far too simplistic at when looking at our problems this year. At times anyway.
‘We need to toughen up’, ‘we need to fight’, ‘just go out and play football matches now, lads’, etc, etc. There’s perhaps some merit in that, but it also can’t be that simple. If it was, we’d all be Premier League managers. ‘Right lads, season starts here, you’re all good players, boss lads. Just go out, battle and play this football match against Crystal Palace’ YOU’RE BETTER THAN CRYSTAL PALACE’.
Job done. Watch team romp to 4-0 victory.
Other, perhaps more pertinent factors, didn’t get enough airtime for me -: e.g. – the lack of movement up front hampering us not only up top, but also killing a lot of what was good about our midfield last year. Rodgers’ success being based on getting the time to coach the players in the week, etc.
Both of those points were made, to be fair.
Aye, we’ll be alright if we get the battle fever on…..:

Just finished listening to the podcast while walking the dog there.
Great show again guys. TAW is easily my fav podcast.
Just wanna comment on a coupla things.
Can’t remember who said it but someone mentioned that it would be hard to go with 2 up front because we don’t have the options or mentioned something about not having the options up front. We do have options. We have 4 strikers at the club and only one is out injured. We still have Balo, Borini and Lambo….all 3 brought in by the current regime. Its the manager, who brought them in, choosing not use them is the problem.
Personally I don’t think any of the 3 of them should be at the club if we have any sort of aspirations of consistently challenging to win the title but they are what we’ve got at the min so we’ve got to use them. It’s like the myth that was peddled that we had a paper thin squad last season. We didn’t!! The manager chose not use Assaidi, Borini, Aspas, Alberto, Suso etc etc very much and in some cases at all. With most of those players being brought in by the current regime. Same thing is happening this season with the likes of Borini, Lambo, Kolo etc.
The manager has got to swallow his pride or get over whatever is stopping him playing certain players and just use whoever he’s got fit and available.
My team for Palace…..Migs, Manquillo, Skrtel, Kolo, Moreno, Lucas, Can, Henderson, Sterling, Balotelli, Borini in the diamond.
Gerrard to come on on 60 for Can. Can just doesn’t seem to be able last the 90 yet and I’d rather get the most out of him for 60 and then a fresh Gerrard for 30+ than having both of them on the pitch and both struggling.
I believe Sterling is better running at a defence and that’s why he isn’t starting beside Balo plus Borini works hard closing down defenders, runs the channels and will get in behind the defence hopefully occupying them giving a bit of a room for Balo.
We can defo win this match but only if the players are up for the fight and only if the manager changes his formation and personnel selection. Having said that, I expect Rodgers to go 4-2-3-1 again with a score draw the end result. Actually the end result will be me ripping my hair out in frustration.
Do any of us really believe he’ll have the balls to drop Gerrard?* He’s had so many opportunities and has fluffed it every time.
*This is a lame attempt at a reverse jinx.
if the front was sorted out and we moved the centre of play further up the pitch, Gerrard still does a job for us. It’s because the ball doesn’t stick further up the pitch that Gerrard comes under so much pressure. The midfielders have a role to play but without proper forwards they don’t really know what to do – and we don’t have the time on the training pitch to boot.
Lets see what happens up top, if Mario is injured it may force Brenno’s hand and give us a proper forward ie Lambert and we’ll see if we can make the ball stick up front a bit more.
I still haven’t’ recovered from Gerrard hoofing a long ball over the top for Lambert to chase against Newcastle. It was one of the most witless passages of play I’ve ever had the misfortune to witness.
