Rob, you were right about Luis Garcia, he was nearly a very, very good player. I would liken him to Nani tbh, nearly very good and great in small patches, but ultmately not great.
Andy, this is not the first time you have talked about goals conceded from unfair decisions, and you have hit upon something I have thought about often.
Do the study by all means, but my take on it is about responsibility. A team will defend to the ultimate sinew, and will take responsibility for their mistakes, but take that responsibility from them, and their individual and collective motivation will be compromised. Every defender at the highest level will take responsibility for a mistake, but will be motivated to mitigate against that through individual responsibility from training, but when a bad referee decision is made, that same defender will not have the same motivation, as he will unconsciously deflect the blame onto the match officials. They watch Match Of the Day too…. How many times do you see a footballer berate an assistant
with an invitation to watch the video later? The players will do everything a coach asks them to, but they will not take responsibility for s poor refereeing decision
Great podcast guys, really enjoyed it though I don’t remember it aswell as you guys being a soft southerner. It’s great that you did this to cater for the week off you would be having, though I’m not sure I’m happy you lot get a week off. Who arranged that. Will have to have words…….
Hope you have a good break.
Great podcast as usual. Factual correction ! Rafas dad died when we were in Japan. He decides to stay. Met him with some of the players in the apple store Tokyo thought he was a right miserable get when I had my photo taken Was only when I called home later that night that I found out and felt a right c@@t that I had bothered him.
