PODCAST SPECIAL: TRANSFER COMMITTEE MADNESS
THIS is another game devised for us by John Furlong. So thanks to him.
It works like this – we will have two mock transfer committees. Each will have 25 minutes maximum to come to an agreement about transfer strategy, who comes, who goes and when and present to me wherein I will be the blag John Henry. A role I was born to play. They can do all this within the following boundaries:
15m to spend.
You can only sell the players listed for the values listed and only buy the players listed for the values listed.
As many suggested changes as you like but I may question any attempts to be overambitious in terms of workload.
I will ask questions about age, willingness to join and likely wage expenditure too.
No one can be recalled from loan but loanees do form part of the squad long term.
For the sake of this argument no one can be loaned.
Let me be clear – we have no idea how much Liverpool will have to spend in this window or how the committee will work or what transfer fees will be or the likely signings. We’re just playing a game.

Well isn’t this a fantastic New Year’s surprise! Thanks for this, incredibly entertaining listen.
What would I do? Well, between Enrique and Flanagan returning from injury within the next few weeks, I say hold off on a new fullback until the summer. Hold off on selling a centre-back also; with Sakho out for the foreseeable future, we have only Agger, Skrtel and Toure as reliable options. Instead, sell Aspas, Alberto and Kelly. Rodgers clearly doesn’t have any confidence in them at the moment anyway, and that’ll give you 25 million in total to spend on Fernando and Iturbe.
Voila, we’ve provided quality cover/competition in midfield and brought in a dynamic forward who can play on either flank, attacks defenses and is one of the brightest young talents in the world. I say that goes some way to making a title challenge.
In my opinion Aspas and Alberto will not be sold this quickly. To do so would indicate the Transfer Committee is a failed concept. Loan is an option for both I’d say with Aspas being the greater need. Borini would have given us better options than he has. Alberto has shown some signs of potential but at that price you’d have liked to have seen more.
Simple. Buy M’Villa (16m), sell Aspas for 1m minimum and send Moses back to Chelsea. Not too much fuss as we are not far off being a real force.
Lucas needs more help/competition in center midfield and. A back four from johnson (Colin Pascoe needs to stop him going on the ale asap!), cissoko, agger, skrtel, toure, flanagan and kelly should be good enough. Lucas and M’Villa/Hendo/Gerrard in a two in front of the defence. In front use one from Allen/coutinho/alberto/gerrard with a front three of luis, sterling, coutinho/gerrard/sturridge.
We’ll still finish top four this season as long as we don’t destabilize the team this window. The Brad Smith situation was hopefully just a minor blip in Rodgers’ thinking and he’ll get his head right to get the team gelling once more.

Properly, enormously enjoyable. Loved the contrast between the 2 styles of the committees, #1 was all business and let’s crack on, #2 was let’s have a laugh, and they arrived at pretty much the same conclusions. Except for poor Flanno standing at the door with his head in his hands, God love him.
Thought Henry was easy on them both though..up there in his towers lol.
