Liverpool top of the League after beating United at ANFIELD.
…and no Suarez last minute bid. Top four, here we come!
Was Anfield, surely? Spell check can’t do it all lads.
at Old Trafford?
No, it’s correct – “the visitors from Old Trafford”
Can’t believe the at / from / Anfield / Old Trafford is generating the most comments here – and that I’ve been dragged in to it
At the same time. It’s a good sign if this is people’s biggest issue regarding LFC.
I’m blaming Ian Ayre, regardless!
I’m wondering if the defensive posture we took in the second halves against Stoke and Villa were less about their changing tactics and more about BR intentionally dropping us deep to prepare for United. The start of this season, in fact even our preseason, has seen a much more deliberative and incisive approach to our game with no compunctions to drop back and trust our defensive grit. Certainly the addition of Toure (and now Sakho, who I believe will be one of, if not the, best CB’s in England) suggests more than just a replacement for Carragher but a powerful leading presence for both the back line and the deep lying Lucas and Gerrard.
If this is the case, it shows significant evolution in BR’s tactical management. Furthermore, we’re seeing full buy-in from the players. Coutinho when not getting the ball, is a complete nuisance, Henderson is developing into one of the more impressive box-to-box players in the game, Gerrard is adapting well to his deep playmaking and covering role, Lucas is enjoying support around the pitch and now can seal up the middle and funnel attackers into dead-ends.
It’s early days and perhaps these changes are more noise than signal, but we’ve had seven or eight matches (including preseason) where a similar pattern has shown itself. That suggests intent.
