In respect of both penalties, the question is, would they have been awarded against Utd????. The answer is never in a million years.
Come on mate…Do we have to compare if ManU would get the call or not each time something goes wrong.
Very simple…Enrique got hurt and the whole defence got thrown out of whack with kelly coming and not having played with the group.
The first goal was a unbeilivable strike and we started chasing the game got caught in the counter…
Just a bad game…move on

Thought that Neil and some of the others were a bit unfair to Rodgers on this one. I think Kelly might need some more games at RB in this new system and it would’ve been pretty bizarre to see Henderson in there in the first game of the season. I agree with the apprehension towards Martin at FB and this system, but too early to entirely write him off there.
I think Carroll is almost useless when we only have 10 as his mobility is severely limited. Keeping the one DM on makes quite a bit of sense to me. Someone mentioned how Barca handled a similar situation as if that were the only blueprint to go forward, despite majorly different personnel.
Thought Gibbo was fantastic.
I just feel brendon rodgers wrong man 2 liverpool even though everyone deserves fair chance in life, but in all fairness DO YOU SEE THIS CLUB(rich in history)MOVING FORWARD?????
To be honest, Liverpool fans are starting to piss me off. Most knowledgeable fans in the country? The ones with the biggest knee jerk reactions more like. P.s this is not aimed at the lads on the podcast – we wanna hear critique and appraisals, that’s why we listen.
I’m talking about the general fans across the social media sites. We all talk about the need to build and try to be mature by saying 5 points off the CL places would be a decent first season, but how many actually believe that is acceptable? Judging by the reaction to Saturday’s result, not that many. I’ve said time and time again that City took 3 years of building before the fruits of spending over 600m on players came off. It seems you get 1 game at Liverpool.
To be honest, I’m sick of the negativity towards Fenway too. Ok, they run a tight ship unlike Roman Abramovich and Sheikh Mansour but they’re one (or two) off owners. Who knows what kind of owners Fsg will turn out to be but how many clubs have invested over £140m in the past 18 months, regardless of net. It should be cautious optimism rather than assuming they’re crooks who want to screw us over. If on the other hand they actually do something to warrant our displeasure then it’s ok to criticise. Until then, I find the skepticism of everything they do embarrassing. Agger is still an Lfc player despite having received offers of over £20m. If the FFP is enforced, we could be in good shape.
I don’t see the West Brom game as a disaster. The last half hour was to be fair but we know the reason for that. I left the game with only one major concern – where are the goals gonna come from. It was a bit of a deja-vu to last season. I’ll be amazed if we don’t go out and spend around 7m on Dempsey. He scored half as many goals as our entire team in the league last season and is versatile.
I’m happy with how things are heading. I like the manager, I think the squad at the end of last season was a lot poorer than we want to believe and I think the right steps are slowly being taken to improve it. I think in 2 years time Lfc will be in good shape. I just wish the fans would realise how far we’ve dropped off the top 4 and allow the time to rectify it. Like Cities mega squad proved, there’s no magic wand in football only time and patience.
thanks for the listen guys. couple of comments.
1. Not all easy to hear for less cultured ears (!), please slow the speech down a touch and get one of those fluffy jackets for the microphone to cut down amplifying the background noise. Also remind everyone how much tiny sounds are picked up and amplified and overlapping talking / laughing just makes it all unintelligible. it just makes it so much harder to hear.
As for the team, I’m amazed how much everyone has taken Rodgers’ system to heart as if it’s going to be a done deal that we’ll play great football in not too long.
The finishing position guesses were optimistic to the point of delusion in my mind, as I’ can’t see where we’re going to pick up points at all. I’ll be amazed if we finish above Everton, West Brom, Fulham, Swansea.
To me Rodgers has broken our very decent defensive setup and not fixed our impotent attack. It’s a recipe for disaster.
Playing from the back invites pressing from the opposition and contains the play around our own box. We get nervy and the opposition feel relaxed and are in no danger of being caught upfield.
Then when we’re up forwards, our very high backline with awol full backs means we’re sitting ducks against runners, as Clarke demonstrated against West Brom. While it’s easy to say Carra is going to get skinned alive by any runner, it’s the system that makes us vulnerable.
Lucas will not look so good this season, though he will play well, simply because he won’t form the defensive base, he’ll be encouraged to support the attack. So we’ll lose all the strength we had before and in the EPL we’ll be punished heavily for it.
I can’t really see why we’ve bought Borini (yet), we haven’t sorted the scoring problem – the one thing that really had to be fixed and so I see this season being a major failure, due entirely to this new “system”.
It’s naive, invites pressure, makes slow progress up the pitch, is expensively wasteful and doesn’t focus on what Liverpool needed to address from last season.
FSG had seen the goalscoring problem and very good defence from last season, so taking the front 4, you assume you need to ship out and replace 2 of them [to start with], plus one or two from who you’re letting go.
That’s as much as you can realistically do in one window. You would move Kenny upstairs (due to his awful txfer selections) and put Clarke in charge due to the very good performances shown last year.
Plumping for an entire change in manager, backroom staff, philosophy etc is going to cost a lot and take a lot longer – and is likely to break what you already have. Crazy decision, especially with an unproven young manager, making it all as high a risk move as Liverpool have made in living memory.
Not sensible. It’s going to be a tough year for a fan and Rodgers might not survive past Xmas.
Optimistic then mate? I’m sure it’ll be you calling for his head at xmas! Rodgers is going nowhere this season. Get with the programme. I thought Rodgers style of having the full backs pressing higher up the pitch mean’t we would try and contain the opposition in their own half. Agree about needing a goal scorer but that’s about it mate. Sorry.
