This week Neil, Rob, Andy, Nick and Mike are joined by Sachin Nakrani and Jay McKenna at Parr Street.
This weeks edition was recorded before the news about Sterling being parachuted into the England squad broke, which is just as well as all’s you’d have would be an hour of fuming over Hodgson. Again.

Re: Bringing Jonjo on instead of Henderson vs City…
My thoughts are that Brendan would likely have done this because he was more comfortable moving Joe Allen back into the holding role than play Henderson in a position he’s (so far) not been used in – within this system. Brendan stated in the interview that Joe Allen isn’t playing to his full potential in this position, but that he’s using him there because he ‘knows the system’. I for one think Henderson is wasted when employed in a wide midfield position – although I’d be interested to experiment with him as cover for Johnson as he’s more intelligent with the ball than Kelly. Jordan has imposed himself on the game to far greater effect (Hearts, Chelsea away) when played in a more familiar central role, but he’s perhaps not consistent enough within such a pivotal role to be called upon, particularly ahead of someone who’s fully aware of the requirements and has played a great deal in this system for the manager at a previous club.
Re: The deadline day saga…
Not what any one of us had hoped for, but it’s done now ….and putting it all into perspective, surely it now provides something that we’ve all longed for – and that’s to see some younger talent given the chance at senior level. It might be premature to state that Brendan has proved anything, but he’s certainly shown himself more than willing to gamble on Raheem Sterling’s prodigious talent (when you get the feeling his predecessors would’ve called on a more comfortable/experienced player) and I do get the sense that he’s a manager that can get the best out of current playing squad – however threadbare and inexperienced it may appear at this early stage. Perhaps rather than assume that these youngsters are not up to the challenge, we should give the likes of Morgan, Assaidi, Yessil (and for the future Jerome Sinclair) the chance to surprise us.
We need goals. have done for a while now.
Teenagers don’t score you 15 goals/season.
I don’t think the Gerrard bashing is in any way “shameful”, but it’s no less wrong for that. I don’t know how many players we’ve used in the PL this year – 14, 15? – but other than Allen and Sterling (and Johnson for the most part), there’s no-one who has done better than average. Gerrard is included in that, but unlike the others he is expected to carry the team on his shoulders and steer the side to victory in games we have no earthly right to win. By this measure, he should be dropped. Using any other rational, sober analysis of how we’ve played and how we might play without him – on the back of our equal worst start ever to a season – it would be fucking nuts to do so.
Oi, McKenna! Let Andy Heaton speak without diving in. Go on yoursel, big Andy son.
Some really good points in the podcast. Agree with much of the talk about Brendan’s interview, he seemed relaxed, open and genuine – which is all we can ask of him. Spot on the with the Brendan Bingo though, it’s time to ditch ‘fight for my life’ and find another catchphrase, before Roy Walker pops up with Mr Chips.
I’m looking foward to the dicussion about Roy and the England match, especially given Stevie’s red card, Glen’s performance and the bench appearance of Raheem. The only thing I’ll add is that the one ray of light Roy gave us in his (thankfully) short tenure was bringing Sterling on late against Borussia Mönchengladbach just over 2 years ago. Other than that, he can do the proverbial. To be honest, I spent most of the match checking that Joe Allen wasn’t properly crocked.
And my download also went dead as soon as David Dein was mentioned. It did make me wonder!
Keep up the good work lads.
gerrard suspended for san marino is excellent news!

rodgers is full of BS.
transfer window was a total miscarriage. strikers anyone?
Good point, that the transfer window is done, and now it’s something to learn from and not repeat.
His speech was religious like. Good point.
If you don’t find your Everest on the map you’ll never have it to climb. Rodgers has found his Everest and is getting everyone on board to establish base camp.
The “yank” in me is disappointed Dempsey is not a Red. Especially since he was so close to being signed. I’ve moved on, it’s done, but hopefully moments like that don’t come and go again.
I would like to add, and admittedly speculating, but it appeared to me some of FSG’s moves in baseball may have financially affected eleventh hour LFC moves, including Dempsey.
“Score a couple boys” :-)
Perfect pronunciation of ‘Bord Gais’ Neil. <- Good research or did you
spend time on the Emerald Isle?
